I've just bought a K&N air panel filter, I hope it will run ok, I'll let you know how does it goes once I've installed it.

£600 for a APR remap is a discounted price, I also paid around that price. They put 20/30% offers on quite often so either send them a message and ask when are on again or keep watching them on here, usually they also post it on this forum when the offers are on.

Cheers mate, I'll keep a look out, few things I want to sort out before I consider the remap (secondary decat, stone chip removal, hubs respray, pads and discs, but will definitely keep a look out.

Sales are typically seasonal i.e. summer and winter and announced in the news section on the apr home page. You can get an idea of when there maybe another one by reading though the old posts. Discount is typically 20%.

An upgrade is definitely worth it but if you have warranty concerns Revo now claim to be able to map via OBD port and DTUK are getting very good results with their tuning box on the S3 8V. Mapped the car is more akin to a TTRS Plus ... an animal and then some. Drive and power delivery are OEM like inevitably you may see the traction light more if your heavy footed but 255 fronts with 8.5J wheels and changing from Contis can get round most of that.

No one seems to make more torque on a map alone than APR who also seem to marginally make more power. Whenever you need a change to the map upgrade return to stock etc it's ecu out and open. APR's stock map can be detected by Audi if they look for it and despite how careful most APR dealers are it's almost impossible to open an ecu (especially multiple times) without it showing signs of being opened. There's also no signs of APR's promised program switching on the RS3 only TTRS. Above is purely my opinion based on my experiences others may have found different.

I thought it was done through the ECU via a laptop? do you have to drive around with something dangling out the OBD port?

The Bosch MED 9.x ecu in the 2.5T was notoriously difficult to crack thus remap so there are very limited options to 'flash' or remap the ecu via the OBD port. An APR map will require your ecu to be removed and opened at least for the first time. Aparantly future upgrades should then be possible through the OBD port but EVERY time anything has had to be done to mine the ecu has been out and opened. This involves the anti tamper bolts to be ground off with an angle grinder and the ecu prized open. The open ecu is then put on a bench tool and flashed. The ecu is then glued and sealed shut to prevent any water ingress and new anti tamper bolts fitted to the ecu then this refitted to the vehicle. Think of having to drill out the bolts from an iphone and opening it up. A very delicate operation to sensitive electronic equipment which would be difficult to achieve without leaving any marks or signs of being opened despite how much care was taken.

Recently Revo claim to be able to remap the ecu via the obd port and a laptop but I have not heard of anyone successfully using this method. Early Revo maps I believe we're flashed in a similar way but happy to be corrected if they have moved on. Revo have an SPS device that allows to alter the map settings which would remain plugged into the obd port but neither APR or Revo require something in the obd port at all times.

MRC do custom remaps I believe in a similar way but I am surmising there. DTUK have a tuning box that sits in the engine bay and connects to a number of sensors. There are then jumpers on the box you can change to alter the performance.

My ecu has had three different stage1 maps flashed on and was taken out only once, the first time. Afterwards the new files were uploaded through the OBD port with a laptop.

I know its worth it....but I am not trusting anybody with my ECU, until they learn how to do it through the OBD...just not worth the hassle....

Revo can do it via the DLC and do not need to gain access to the ECU (which is under the scuttle panel)

Revo are charging £699 for a stage 1 map...which seems reasonable? anybody had it done before

I dont know if things have changed recently, but when I decided to have my rs mapped I contacted ADS, my local revo dealer here in Preston, which is pretty well known here in the NW and was told that they needed to keep the car for a couple of days at least to remap it, that really put me off the idea. Later I found out from one of my customers and a former employee of the dealer, that with the rs3s the ecu has to be removed and be sent away to the uk revo HQ to have it flashed.

Awesome did everything in a couple of hours, including a post map run on the rolling road at no extra cost.

(not the way to treat customer cars  )...

I believe my mapping is going to be Revo based as the basic tool to work from not APR.....as mine will be one off too with various maps being available to switch to. All of the work needed to achieve this will be done by the main man as PSI in Stoke and the ECU won't be going anywhere.....Finalising detailing and tweaking a map is in my opinion is a creative art form, needs massive experience enthusiasm and knowledge, in house technology and a rolling road

Incidentally how much fun is it observing your car all wired up and being tested on a rolling road

It's all about trust isn't it mate.. my Leon was used as daily driver by the tuners following a major engine rebuild and upgrade for a fortnight in order to run it in and test the mapping in all driving, load and heat situations

I suppose your right, but wouldnt let anyone touch my motor in that way lol...just not worth it if something goes wrong.  -_-
