Sorry to bring this post back up...but I need help...

Anyone know the best map for their Audi RS3? I am in two minds about getting a Stage 1 Map but after reading everyone's reviews its something I will definitely do...once the nursery costs are out the way! lol.....

I really do not fancy paying £838 for a Stage 1 when some on here have had it done cheaper....what would you guy recommend?

Really appreciate the help!!!  :)

Another few weeks when the big car shows start and all tuners will have offers on.
Last year APR (awesome gti) were also remapping cars on the spot at the GTI International if you fancy coming to it.

Interesting for sure...but the appeal of having a rolling road does entice me....I have seen Revo are doing a Stage 1 Map for £599 exclusive of Vat so might try and seeing what they can do.....

Does it literally transform the car and make the DSG gear change sound louder with bypass pipes?

I remapped mine within 3 weeks of owner ship so can't do too much comparison but what I will say is that a stage 1 is all you will need with a cat bypass. The biggest problem is having a road to drive it on... I rarely have space for full throttle as its too quick!!

Does the DSG gear sound increase with a Remap?

Remap it at GTI International but try get Awesome to throw in a rolling road too as there local to you. Will probably have a Stage II downpipe and that OEM non-res exhaust for sale by then too. Sure Awesome would throw in a rolling road if you got them to fit the exhaust downpipe and bought a map.

Keep us posted on the exhaust maybe tempted :)

Back to point I think a rolling road is a must really when doing any tuning

You get what you pay for, Ask one of the guys at APR to explain their software.

APR is without doubt the preferred map for the RS3, mine was bloody quick mapped!

Awesome do rolling road before and after on every APR map regardless now too :)

So here is a question that may start a riot and with Wayne in this topic it could be fun, if it's already been done to death please tell me to piss off ;).

I really want to map the RS3, everyone says APR but..... With APR being an American company what's their real life experience of English fuel and tuning ability to deal with the difference? I, in no way doubt their tuning prowess and capabilities I am just curious as to how they get round this issue. Do they road test their maps in the country of sale using the available fuel to the customer and in real time conditions before sent into the public domain ect?

Are APR maps a full remap of the complete suck, squeeze, bang, blow procedure, ie increased valve timing to compensate for the increase in fuel pressure, inlet pressure, exhaust pressure and EGT's or is it a case of, up the turbo pressure and increase the fuel as we see so many times with tuning box's and 'remaps'. So many times you hear of complete head failure due to an increase in fuel and boost?

I would also include Revo and any other on the day remapers into this, as a company that can remap cars on the day of a show by a simple flash of the ECU with no on road/RR testing or driving results to me seems foreign coming from a background of remap road test, pull over and tweak, drive and continue until both parties (tuner and customer) are happy with the end result. Spending £850 for a simple ECU flash is out of the question for me until somebody can tell me otherwise . The problem is every car is different.

Which then leads onto the question. With an English based Audi specialist tuner like MRC who have years of experience on home ground, with great results (from what I can see) on their own maps be a much better choice?

They have their own map that is then tweaked and refined as a RR takes place and the car doesn't leave until they are happy with it (from what I can gather). Simply just doing a RR before and after tells no truths about the behaviour of the map, just the figures achieved?

Nice post by someone who actually sounds interested in what 'actually' makes a map good / bad.

I like the standard car though it's quick enough.
Maybe at some point I'll add the cat bypass pipes / rear anti-roll bar however the engine for me is good enough.

Pretty much what I've done
Rear roll bar and bypass pipes., I've got over a years warranty left so don't want to risk that!

I do find the car is quick enough for my needs in standard tune though.

APR ,no question

Did you try both APR and Revo versions prior to choosing APR? If so, why did you pick APR?

Why is APR '....the preferred map....'? The power and torque curves for all the tuners look remarkably similar and, speaking as a simple accountant, I wonder just how different they can be?

Good to know thanks Wayne.

If I'm passing when I get round to swaping to my APR downpipe and Forge intercooler assume you'll be interested in running my car again then?

....

I am in the same boat as you mate, after much "googling" and help enthusiasts on here it seems like APR is the way forward as they are the ones who have the most information on ECU mapping, etc. However, I am aware they are other companies equally as impressive in the way produce/map their software. It does seem a bit pricey, but after with discounts/sale might be a bit reasonable.

What still baffles me is that the RS3 is quick enough, but I cant even think of how quick it can become after an ECU map, however many on here have had the APR map and say it is a spirited drive with impressive and smooth power delivery in comparison to Revo for example where their map is implemented like a harsh and blunt instrument but by no means in effective...

APR have a sale on...time to get some money together!  :D
