I`m not sure on that one .It could I suppose be possible to change the sprockets in situ.Really depends on how much room there is.It will have to be retimed afterwards but they will do that.

Hi ok thanks for all your help chaps really helpful stuff once I get this sorted car should be more enjoyable to drive as won't be waiting for the noise !!! Just the sound of the engine running sweet would be nice which it is most of the time also I'm not done there I have interior rattles to combat next !! It never ends

That's a bit old school. You telling me Audi haven't got any better way of detecting erroneous noises from an engine apart from something my dad taught me 40 years ago 😂

Ahh... The old screwdriver / block of wood trick

When mine was in last year they said they had a special stethoscope type tool for diagnosing 'noises'

As old school as it may be, its good to know that someone had the savvy and knowledge to do it.
I always fear now with any main dealer that unless the computer tells them what's wrong they've not got a clue and don't know where to the next. Then comes the let's change part by part until we find it or you get "dont worry they all do that"!! Lol

Having said all that you think they'd have a stethoscope rather than a screwdriver!! Haha

Was it a Philips or flat screwdriver?

Does it give a deeper sound if it's insulated too?

So far so good I haven't heard anything and the car seems to drive a lot smoother and less engine noise inside the car as well so all good if stays that way the only problem I have now is when braking sometimes I'm getting a juddering and drone coming from the brakes ?
