I'm presuming you're running the full standard Audi setup?

Sk it must be the variable valve sprockets on the cam it's a pain in the arse took me 5 months to source the problem have you got warranty ? If so just keep taking it back also what I did is every time I started my car hot or cold I recorded it with my iPhone to catch the sound and play it to Audi tech I will check out the red stuff thread thanks

Ohhh yes extended warranty plus the issue has been logged with Audi uk so no way the nuggets are getting out of it if the engine goes bang.
Mine does it more in P when start it or give it a few revs it's not right I'm going to try and record it

Hi dead end !! Audi have had the car for three days it's been service fully new brakes on the front air con serviced they been all over the engine bay the tech has heard the intermittent acceleration sound or tapping noise on test drive he first said it sounded like an air leak but they can't find anything wrong with the engine and say there happy with it ? same problem as have had for past six months still no answer or idea to what it can be think I will just have to keep taking it back and hope it develops more and hope they can find it or maybe I should take it to someone else ?

mines does this, sounds like  tappit noise, does it randomly, give it a wee rev it goes away, not hampering performance.....

No it's not hampering performance it's just not a nice thing to hear when it's cost so much money and under warranty and also it sounds awesome when it's not doing it, I was hoping they would at least know what was causing ii but there you in sure if they knew what it was they would fix it

Yes had two master tech guys on it they have checked everything the only thing they chant check is start taking things apart like the turbo or the head and warranty company are not going to foot the bill for that so will see what I can come up with next I have a friend who said he could take a look he's worked on r8 and jags so I might give it to him and see what he thinks now

I personally think it's a hydraulic lifter that is the problem but Audi won't top off to have a look unless they defiantly know it's that as warranty won't pay for them to do so same goes with the turbo if it's a turbo that maybe at fault they won't go into it they will only check around it that everything is fitted correctly so I'm going to get someone to take the top off a check the lifters turbo seems fine so it's not that

Your issue then is if it is the lifters, trying to get Audi to do the same as they will stick to the same story as before. It really is a case of computer says no with most modern day main dealer techs.

VCDS  can confirm lifter problems. If you check the injector pulse width when you have the noise then one or more will change a lot.The lifter won`t be opening the valve enough therefore there`s not enough air going into one or more cylinders. The ecu will pick up a rich mixture and alter injector pulse width to compensate.Main dealers should be able to do that.

They never mentioned it at all , I don't think they really want to know they took a look over whole engine bay and made sure everything was tight and no leaks and that's it

Raps Can I plug vcds in while driving as that's the only time it does it ?

You can use VCDS while driving. If it is a cam lifter it shouldn`t make any difference if your driving or not.It would be purely revs related.

It only does it when in drive and driving along it doesn't do it when it's in park or neutral and revving it, it sounds fine until you start start driving the car
