Hi Ben, 6,700 miles on a May 2012 registered car.
So just over 2 years left of the optional 5 year warranty left.

As much as I'd like to try the redstuffs, it would be silly of me to while in warranty, and prior to any brake update it might need in future.

I agree Paul its a no brainer ,it ain't squealing ,you've got loads of warranty left and the cars only just run in.

Equally depends on your dealer plus how often you as an owner wish to keep taking it back to be fixed under warranty. Audi UK reneged paying Tyneside Audi for my last set of discs and pads, set no. 4 BTW and the car is away for the day every time it is done. I have about 7 months left on warranty but will be changing to Yellowstuffs by the end of the month because I know they work and want improved brake performance and willing to pay some toward that whilst not having to organise to take the car in again in the next month or so for a diagnosis session and then another day to have new discs and pads fitted if Audi are prepared to pay for it this time.

I am starting to wonder if I actually want the new parts. It's not the cure, and I could be installing the problem.

The only other thing to consider is if you have ever suffered from the braking delay in the wet the revised setup is also supposed to resolve that.

Jmcnamee98, I can confirm the revised set up does nothing to resolve delayed braking in the wet nor does blanking the offside cooling vent recall, still as dangerous as ever.

P_G I wanted to 'like' the above post but wasn't sure that was appropriate. Fortunately one of the few brake issues I personally haven't experienced, sounds scary!

Yellowstuff are performing great, I'm really pleased with the improvement I've seen, the bite is fantastic.

How is the dust with the yellow stuff pads?

It is but fortunately only happens when it is extremely wet and you haven't used the brakes for a while but when you've been driving on a dual carriageway for 10+ miles and then have to hammer on the anchors, for the car not to stop and then when you stamp on the pedal again pulls from one side and then the other pad grips and it squirms the other way its not what you want when you are rapidly approaching traffic. I get around it by left foot braking occasionally when on the move to keep heat in the discs / pads and clean the disc surface of water, what newer Audi's effectively do by ABS brake sweeping

When I was poking around VCDS, there was a setting to enable/disable "brake wipe". From what I can find out it applies the brakes every so often to clear/dry the discs but only when the wipers are on the "on" position.

Cant remember exactly where in VCDS (assume under brakes/braking section) but it was set to enable on mine so left it as is.

Just thought I'd give you an update. After speaking to both derby Audi and Stafford Audi who both denied any knowledge of the fault I emailed Audi UK. I have previously contacted them and they told me to go to the dealer. Anyway 4 days after email was sent still had no reply so decided to call them. Short answer was book it in at your nearest dealer and pay for investigation and they shut the case! They even made a point that my car had not been to Audi for servicing, how can I be held accountable for previous owners, can't say I blame them though not going to Audi. The whole process has been terrible start to finish, the lady at Audi UK also pointed out at least 10 times my car was 30 days outside of warranty and would be a judgement of good will if anything was done. It's a shame the good will doesn't start from the beginning! I have given up on this now but thankfully a local parts supplier has agreed a very good discount for new oe front discs. Quick question what pads would anybody recommend, brembo, pagid, ebc?? Any money this is costing me will be reclaimed through Audi by applying the most mileage which is humanly possible to their courtesy car when I collect it, I do hope they supply seat covers also

Checked part numbers and it's on original items.

Hi Simon, I am curious, are you going to fit the original discs,   or the "B" discs on the old calipers?

I recently bought some disks from Audi and got the 'B' part number FYI. Hopefully there are none of the original versions left in the parts system but check before you part with your money.
Audi RS3 8P 2011: Phantom Black, Retrofit genuine Audi black grille. Mods: Milltek Decat pipes, Bilstein B16 Coilovers with 034 Motorsport top mounts. Superpro front control arms, Powerflex Gearbox & Dogbone mount inserts, 034 Motorsport Rear ARB, 034 Motorsport Front & Rear Drop Links. Reyland 370mm front brake rotors.

I have had a number of sets of discs and pads out of Audi (car is 2.5 yrs old) due to the old sets repeatedly overheating.

Since the modified parts were fitted the brakes have been rubbish with even less feel and less bite.

Has anyone else found this?

Matt

Yes, oh definately yes...  Original pads had much better 'bite' and a lot less dust: Padgid fiction materials of course - so don't let the Brembo and/or Audi logos fool you...

Ordered new discs and the new part number is the only one listed, will check though when I collect tomorrow. Have some mtec drilled discs for the back too. Will fit with copperslip as recommended elsewhere and see what happens?

Would RS3 specific RedStuff that accommodate the factory wear sensors invalidate warranty. Or is this going to depend on dealer?

Just an opinion - have a look at alternatives rather than "copperslip".

I find "CeraTec" a lot better for back of pads (Pagid do a version, Mintex do a version).

They won't be interested in any warranty issues with discs & pads once you use aftermarket pads, I've been told.
I'm fine with that as I can get a new pair of front discs for £420. If I need to.

Hi there.

This is not strictly true. I had some Pagid R19 pads on my RS3 for a number of months. When the squeel annoyed me so much that I couldnt bare it i took it to Audi for them to put OEM pads back on. They found a fault with the brake system (the floating discs had moved) which was not pad related and they replaced the calipers, discs and pads at no cost to me.

Incidentally, this is the same issue i now have again nine months later. The floating disc on one side has physically moved and they cannot fit new pads as the gap is too small. They are again replacing the calipers, discs and pads on both sides.

I am seeking a full explanation from Audi UK as to what the problem is because this is not normal and is clearly a fault.

There will be a time when Audi wont remedy this so I want to know what the problem is and what they are going to do to solve it.

The car is a 60 plate and has done 50,000 miles.

Maybe so,

All I'm saying is what I was told when an Audi dealer saw redstuff pads in mine.

The only way to avoid it would be to refit the original brembo pads which I still have in the garage(with 70 odd miles use)

Remember not all dealers say / do the same thing, just look at the amount of RS 3 owners that are refused the 47i6 update, even when they quote the ref number.

Audi can be a law unto themselves sometimes.

You've hit the nail on the head Sean its all dealer dependant ,Audi are a law unto themselves as they are the ones making the laws,

When I ordered mine today the only part listed was the one ending in B? I have seen the ones listed on ebay but when I checked that part number it only listed ttrs. My mechanic friend is fitting mine and has the mintex stuff so will be using that. Will report back hopefully with good news

I believe the TTRS discs are different and do not fit.

The offset of the disc to hub face is different.
