Update on chain noise.Well I am even more pissed off than before.Car`s come out of Audi for the can`t remember how many times still with the same noise.I was asked by the dealer to do a recording of the noise.Phone wasn`t too good at this so I paid £99 for a really nifty recording device with external microphone that clips on the engine.Got 6 perfect recordings.Gave the usb to dealer who agreed it was a chain issue then told me Audi UK wouldn`t accept this as the noise may not necessarily be my car !!!!!!!!!!!!!  They changed the oil and filter on I was told Audi UK`s recommendation .It made no difference.I have also asked them numerous times to put the latest update on the ecu which is designed just to stop the chain noise and was told it already has it .Well I checked with Audi UK and guess what. They have no record of my dealer contacting them regarding my car.And it hasn`t got the chain update. So out of 5 faults originally ,4 still remain. They did successfully stop a seat rattle.Changed the entire seat.

Then today they have the audacity to phone me to say I need to bring the car in for it`s first MOT,brake fluid change, haldex oil change "to  keep the car in tip top shape".Well obviously my particular handbook must be printed incorrectly as it says Haldex oil change every 4 years not 3.

I love the car but am seriously thinking of selling it if I can`t get any problems sorted.

I agree Neil

Audi UK are hopeless

They made it sound like they are doing me a favour by changing all the front suspension components.
Why I asked ?

Because it's out of warranty Sir.......

Err I don't think so

1) it's been reported well in manufacturer warranty

2) I have extended warranty

3) F*** off and fix the car

Doing me a favour

My A***

My dealer has tried the 3 year haldex service with me too on my S3 and RS3 until I read the manual in front of them.

It seems keeping the RS 3 in 'tip top' shape means bugger all
It'll still give trouble even if you look after it.

Doesn't sound like Audi uk it's the dealer taking the piss unfortunately these days you have to take to social media before things start to happen.
We slated a certain dealership for not selling us a car because they didn't think we had the money.
Tagged Audi into the tweet and had a phone call from the dealership manager within 3 hours licking the souls of my feet 😂

I'd be changing the Haldex and stronic oil far more regularly than suggested as well as the engine oil, the difference in all 3 is noticeable.

Been there too.
I ended up ordering my next two UK spec S3's from Germany instead saving ££££'s when the Euro was favourable, all because a dealer wasn't interested in selling me a car.

I probably will. But at less than 9k miles in over 3years, I'm not in any rush.

The oils been already been done at least twice, since it left the factory.

I can imagine how frustrating this must be, only thing I can suggest is to get on to Jon Sutcliffe, Head of Business for Bolton Audi, here's his email: Jon.Sutcliffe@inchcape.co.uk and just tell him exactly whats happened because theres a good chance a communication breakdown has happened between Service and Audi UK which is not reaching him...

When I went down this route I got my brakes changed...

Keep us posted! best of luck buddy!

P.S. dont be afraid to give Audi UK some sh*t either because ultimately they are on our side.....

Have you tried approaching Carl Smith at Bolton Audi, last time I checked he was the manager or is he the one being unreasonable?

Ok....on my previous post I mentioned taking my RS into N.Wales Audi for the `chain rattle on cold start-up` back in Feb this year.

I was told that they did manage to replicate the noise as Audi UK told them to keep the car for an extra day to allow it to completely cool down.

The noise then showed up on start up so they proceeded to `check`(replace ??) the chain tensioners which the tech told me was a big job.

The work (?) was done under warranty (extended) and I picked up the car and all has been well....................UNTIL NOW..........

Left the RS at work location carpark at 0730am at the beginning of the week , left it there for some 9-10hrs and returned to start it up around 6pm.

F Me.......there noise was back!! , not as bad as in February but defo there.

After a 10min wait while the engine warmed up the noise went and I drove home......its been ok for the rest of the week....no noise on cold start-up every morning around 0730.

Now what I have noticed is there is a small possible common denominator (??) here. At the beginning of the week when the noise came back the car was parked out in the open and the weather was sunny and warm (yes I did say that--British summer !!!) and the car felt very warm inside.

I noticed this last feb......on a really cold day when the outside temp was down the noise was not there on start up ,, but when the temp was warmer outside the noise seemed to come back.

As daft as it seems I am thinking that this could be an oil issue....maybe the oil doesn't get to the chain quick enough or one of the mentioned low or high pressure pumps thinks it has not got to function due to temperature ????

So far this week the noise hasn't come back but we have not had much sun so the outside temp has been down!

My apologies for talking possible Bull S here!! ,, but if it comes back on a regular basis I will be back down to N.W.Audi and I will give them a hard time!

This has this been said many times before the RS3 is a brilliant car but with too many irritating problems (some big ie brakes) some small but they just should not be there...mine has done over 27k now and I sometimes think whats next!!

Having said that like I said before I am waiting to see what the MK2`s are like and may get a used low mileage example when the come onto the market in a couple of years.

Oh dear so even an Audi Fix isn't enough ??
They make these cars but have no idea how to fix them.

Saying that they changed the oil viscosity on Raptors car I think, but it didn't make any difference !

A lot of TT 3.2 owners have changed oil to 5/40 as some reckon it's better for the chain.

Strike eagle

It`s funny you should mention outside air temp.I`ve actually been logging that all week along with time the car has been left along with if fast idle comes on or not.

The three are definitely connected.I`ve almost got it sussed but not quite. When Audi had my car for a whole week it was fairly cool and they said it didn`t make the noise but the week prior was hot and it did it every single day.

Need to do more logging.
