My rear discs used to get a bit of attention ...

John.
You sure it wasn't something to do with the big red calipers mate ? 😁

OEM did that Sean.
TX.
OEM did what ?
He’s referring to the larger discs and different caliper position because of it.

What about MOT time with the handbrake?
PS. Oli, my car use to have brackets for a separate handbrake caliper (Ferrari something-or-rather) & never worked properly for reasons. Contacted Vagbremtechnic for advice & their response was 'we don't sell them anymore'
Now I do without a handbrake because it's not a daily driver, but IMO if you've got a decent alternative I'd give VBT a miss.
Cheers, Leon.

I’m running the Vagbremtechnic front and rear kit with Ferraro DS2500 pads. All from Awesome GTI.
Not sure of the size of the discs but they are the largest that will fit.
The larger rear discs gives stability when stopping at high speed (I’m talking about triple figures). The rear doesn’t go light as much as the standard setup. It also looks much better cosmetically.
Incidentally the clearance between the rear calliper and the standard oem PFL wheels was very tight but they never rubbed. On the oem FL wheel (near side rear) the calliper has caught the inside of the wheel a few times as there’s scoring marks in there.
I’m thinking how much those Saloon wheels suit that colour S/B

I’m pretty sure someone on here had a rubbish experience with VBT.
I think it was @coxeterj if memory serves.
Sean.
There's nothing wrong with your memory mate & yes your correct as a bracket cracked.😫
Dell.
My MK6 Golf R Snapped a Front Bracket and on checking the other side that was cracked as well. Was surprised by Vagbremtechnic's response as luckily it failed at slow speed but they didn't seem to care that there product could have flipped a Car over if it had been a High Speed Track Failure.

That's another one i remember reading about......
Not painting a good picture here at all, customer service on safety related or indeed any items should be top priority.......
Was considering using Awesome GTI for my 1st service instead of the dealer, but if this is how customers concerns are addressed i'm gonna think again......

I've dealt with Awesome and been quite happy with there service prior to the Snapped Bracket and when I spoke to John 1st (with his Awesome GTi Hat On) he was quite helpful it's only when I rang VBT the next Day and John answered as a VBT Employee his attitude Changed

The fact is that whole situation could’ve ended badly for you.
I just viewed the bracket images again and was reminded how 1 side failed completely, then your picture of how close behind the 2nd bracket was.
I once rang VBT / Awesome on behalf of a friend about their disc upgrade for the 3, found them not really wanting to sell the versions I enquired about originally, but the super duper lightweight versions that were more expensive they had no problem discussing.

All these people with issues really need to get their poor reviews on Facebook and google, as from the outside it looks like they are doing a good job 👌🏻
Thanks for everyone’s input, I really appreciate it

I am horrified by those pictures of the failed bracket.
I am also horrified by their manufacture - those brackets are but cast iron. This not only from the visual aspect, but plainly obvious by the fact that there is a steel thread insert sitting there as proud as punch! This is quite disgraceful. These brackets should be a good quality steel and should have been specified as such by the designer.
I am surprised that you are as calm as you are - as said above, this could have ended quite badly. If this were in the States, you would have a queue of lawyers at your door wanting to bring a class action.
Glad you were not harmed by this. I would advise anyone against using these people for any reason.

Hal.
Those brackets look like there manufactured out of aluminium by CNC then anodised with steel inserts for the threads rather than tapping the threads directly into them for strength.
It seems that there wasn't enough metal around the fixing lugs & with the stress on them they fractured.

Yep, I'd go along with that, but then I'd question the quality of aluminium used - especially judging by the corrosion marks present. Quality aircraft grade 6061 aluminium would be OK and has a shear factor of thousands (??) of psi, but those brackets are nowhere near that grade..!

Also the question of the anodising which should be of the hard variety.

OK Dell - you obviously know your metalurgy! What is hard anodising? I thought anodising was, well - just anodising... !
