REDSTUFF is a 100% CURE-ALL for me and BLUEY, period!

ANY doubt and anyone with a standard 47i6 or pre-47i6 Audi/Brembo/Pagid (yes they are) brake pad should pull 'em out and check the surface break-up - its the cause of those big black smuts you see on the inside of the rim - like these at 750-miles:

REDSTUFF on the other hand at a similar mileage:

PERFECT brake pedal, superb bite from cold, progressive from (legalish) high speed, and NO brake squeal...

YOU decide...

My only concern about Redstuffs is being a harder material how quickly they chew the discs but it doesn't look like anyone has had them on long enough to see if that is a factor. After the third 476i install mine are doing OK so far. If the squeal in summer I may change them then.

Ahem!  I have been fortunate by invitation to have had a toe-to-toe with the previous MD of Audi UK to discuss RS3 brake issues and am well aware of where this brake issue has been going for some time.  For 3-years now I've listened, read, and developed my own resolutions, and as many will know I'm VERY hands on and opinionated in my old age; but believe me of one thing, and if one thing only: I will NEVER remove the EBC REDSTUFF brake pads from my own 2011 Audi RS3 and revert to any of the OEM Audi/Brembo/Pagid 'poo' (a technical term) brake pads supplied by any Audi dealership.

The brake caliper and/or brake disc just isn't the problem/cause of any and/or all spurious issues being experienced.

That said, I have fitted REDSTUFF to, and removed from, our 2010 TT.

So good to be back...

BUT there remains a problem to be resolved as the nearside front brake disc fitted to the RS3 and TTRS have the drilled hole pattern leading from the BOTTOM when rotating forward but on the offside front brake disc the drilled hole pattern is leading from the TOP.

Many will never have noticed this arrangement; and I hadn't until these discs arrived and I attempted to fit.

Does this matter you may ask.  Not to the function but certainly the aesthetics of the arrangement on the offside will be compromised, however, that issue can be resolved with a second set of brake discs and chosing the two that suit you best.

I'm already talking with the supplier and trying to resolve the issue that's 100% of Audi's making...

John what discs are those they look great. I had been looking for some larger drilled discs to go on the rear something like the 034motorsports kit for the ttrs which are RS6 C5 335mm discs but would require different hubs

Everyone might not have notice but the "rotor" style wheels we have fitted as standard are also different each side, the "triangle" is facing one way on side and the opposite on the other !

MTEC supplied 'em, John, though you've to play some to get 'em to match the Audi units fitted to your RS3.  I purchased four, chose the two I wanted and then prep'd and fitted 'em today.

P1020065xx_zpsbdb17eeb.jpg

Me, Bluey, and RS3copilot just love 'em.

PS: been conversing with MTEC today and they 'still' don't seem to want to supply brake discs with hole patterns to suit the STD RS3 and/or TTRS; maybe it's just a post Christmas/New Year/Irish block: but if you want what you want then just buy 2-sets and pick and mix; it ain't so difficult....

Like a stick-of-rock I'm RS3 through-and-through, John

Would love an RS7, but wouldn't want to swap BLUEY for an RS7/4/5/6/8 etc....

So here's BLUEY's now nearside drilled:

Looking good John are they 310mm discs or 335mm do you mind if we ask how much they were I would like some better rear discs that matched the fronts?

I have never noticed before the drilled hole pattern on the offside front brake disc leads from the top, do you think contributes to the musical brakes feature it always seems to be my front offside that squeals?

Does anyone know if this arrangement is the same with the newer 'wavy' discs on the RSQ3 RS4 RS5 RS6 RS7 R8?

The direction of the centre vanes will also be pointing in different directions (one side will be facing backwards)45bvtc will be able to tell as wether this would affect the cooling.I presume this is a cost cutting exercise with Audi as there is no separate left and right sided part.

These are 310mm diameter, with a 22mm friction surface thickness, and 48.5mm o/a depth, and I paid £110 a pair to include the superb anti-rust coating.

The RS3 front brake discs are not handed, it's the same brake disc on both sides and therefore cost effective for Audi/Brembo to manufacture: and we all know how good (not) the anti-rust coating is on these original brake discs...

I do not think the RS3 brake disc arrangement contributes to the musical brakes; for me it's always been the interface between pad and caliper pistons and I've demonstrated as much several times to Audi UK - but they went with the 47i6 'update' that in many cases proved as musical as original.  Oh, and with my car it was the nearside front that 'squealed' and I mean 'SQUEALED'.  Never once did the offside squeal.

The MTEC brake discs are handed.  It makes not a jot of difference to function only to appearance, maybe; it took three of us over an hour to see the difference and decide preference.

I'll be selling on the 'spare' pair and include a low (<1500) miles set of REDSTUFF brake pads to suit; so if you're interested...

I'm interested how much are you looking for, for them and are the discs unused. I presume you have fitted 2 left hand discs to match the Audi drilled arrangement so have 2 right hand discs spare?

Do they offer much of an upgrade over the standard rear discs? Braking from high speed or an track can unsettle the rear.

For me, and for 'ROADUSE', the brake discs themselves are a ZERO upgrade in braking efficiency.

REDSTUFF, however, is a different matter.

BUT for me/us these brake discs are a 500% improvement in looks; the dogs bo**ocks, actually.

And 1000% improvement in anti-rust treatment; wait till you see the rust covered backside of the original Audi OE brake discs...

As I said previously, I'm "just playing", because that's what I now do...

And if they don't do for me what I want then I'll revert back tout suite, 'cos I can...

But if anyone wants the remnants for an RS3, S3, Golf, Eos, Passat, Superb, Scirocco, etc...

Amazingly: until the Audi OE arrangement was highlighted not many owners have ever even noticed: and me with an RS3 for close to 4-years now - I hadn't, but have now; and so too have others, now...

I'll bet if you walf from one side of the car to the other you'll need to go back and check: we did, several times...
