Well it seems Redstuff are not the answer as a couple of you seem to have found out already.

Fitted Redstuff all round with new rear drilled discs and the rear pads disintegrated whilst Audi were road testing the vehicle! The pads have left score marks on the new discs too which I am not happy about :(

The pads are in a terrible state there's no other word for it than disintegrated in less than 20 miles.

The discs are indeed as above both supplied by a trusted member. The rear pads admittedly had previously been bedded on standard discs but looked in perfect condition.

Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence for the Redstuff that are on the front but at least they may not squeal, if they manage to last GTI International in a couple of weeks!

Where were Audi road testing it, the Nordschleife over 3 hot laps!!! I've had Red's on for over 6K miles and they are in perfect condition along with my discs. I don't know how long Audi had the car on the road test but them pads are cooked so what abuse was the tech giving your car !!!!!! Trust me my brakes get a regular work out and that damage looks like abuse to me.

Audi have done 30 miles in the car and its 10 miles each way to the garage so assuming they road tested the car twice those pads may have disintegrated in 5 miles  :89:

I'm not sure how they have killed them they must have been binding to the disc.

Veneergod thanks for the offer I'll take the rears if you have no use for them be good to keep the pads matching PM me postage costs.

Hang on a minute i've just seen your other post about the HEL brake lines being fitted and Audi saying they experienced better braking. Who is fitting all these bits to your car such as the disc's, brake lines etc? Could be the rear callipers weren't wound far enough back when the new discs were fitted so the pads were in constant contact with the disc and therefore cooked themselves.

The front Redstuff pads were new TTRS items on OEM discs that have covered nearly 6k.

The rears that failed had been bedded on OEM discs by another member then fitted to new drilled rear discs and immediately failed.

Audi then fitted new rear pads to the new drilled rear discs.

There's noway those pads could be reused there's literally chunks missing!

Quite possibly. Audi fitted new Redstuff pads front and previously bedded Redstuff pads rear new drilled rear discs and the Hel lines whilst it was in for a service.

Not having a go at you but you paid Audi at £75 + P/H labour charge to fit non standard Audi parts they F_cked it up and buggered both the disc's and pads.

Hopefully you will learn from this lesson. Audi tech's are new part swappers. they can't do anything else. They are like call centre workers that call you up and read from a script. They cant think for themselves, kind of like Zombies.

DONT PAY AN Audi GARAGE TO DO ANYTHING ON YOUR CAR OTHER THAN TO FIX THINGS UNDER WARRANTY OR SERVICE IT TO GET A STAMP IN THE BOOK!!!!!!

and Yes I am shouting. Next time find a garage who know how cars actually work. Their are plenty local specialists who will be a lot cheaper and do a good job.

Please don't waste your money paying Audi for anything other than the basics. Sorry but your pads didn't fail, Audi buggered it up and fitted the pads too tight on the disk.

If Audi's techs are new part swappers as you say then shouldn't they have been able to fit the new parts  :89:

These MTEC discs come with a protective ant-rust coating John and I think that is the problem here; I’m thinking that during the initial running the coating wasn’t removed completely from the friction surface and then with the handbrake applied and the discs cooling that the pads may have then become stuck to the friction surface and when moving away afterwards the pads would have ‘torn’ leaving friction material ‘stuck’ to the friction surface of the disc.

Each pad suggests this as they are ‘gouged’.

I remember that my own discs took some time to clean up fully i.e., remove all of the protective coating as not much braking is on the rear.

If and when you fit another set of pads take time to make sure the friction surfaces are free from any pad deposit than may remain.

Hope this helps…

Yeah they fitted the parts you supplied but look what happened. As per the last 2* posts about the disc coating possibly being the issue, Audi supplied discs do not have this. They do not even come supplied with an oil coating so Audi tech's don't have to prepare OEM discs before fitting. I am surprised your Audi garage even agreed to fit non Audi supplied parts. Additionally they evidently didn't take into account any bedding in for the pads.

Personally I would never fit used pads on a new set of discs. Rule of thumb is you change discs and pads at the same time.

You only have to read on here about Audi's record with brakes. I do all the brake work on my car.

No way in hell do I trust Audi to work on the bits that stop the car !!!!!!

45bvtc veneergod could you post some pics of what your rear discs currently look like along with approximate mileage please?

Pretty sure there not supposed to look like this and I'm pretty sure the sills aren't supposed to look like this either;

Ouch! I think you should name and shame which Audi garage you used.

Seriously they need to fix the damage they caused to your car. Unlikely they will do anything about the discs as they will argue they are not Audi parts.

The discs should clean up OK. Try some fine to medium emery paper.. Worse case them them skimmed on the car.

Coating remains John and that again supports my view that the coating adhesion was/is the problem here: use a hard back razor blade and carefully scrape/slice off the remaining coating and fit new pads and that's you sorted.

As requested here are mine with 850-miles on 'em:

Had a discussion with Alcon Brakes yesterday.......

They recommend these discs and Either Pagid RS29 pads (though he said these will probably squeal) or Ferodo DS performance which I already know don't squeal............

Oooh look quality coated hubs....shame Audi can't afford to do this, maybe we should set up a "just giving" account for the tight arsed F####RS

And they are handed as well so no temperature difference like the OEM setup.

Good find they look great, being handed will help alone.

Now if only the rear were 335mm and 2 piece floating like the fronts for weight I think we'd have a winner.
