Painful indeed. Even more so that Audi UK think I am liable for the costs!!

Thank You, it's going to be a very long few weeks...

WOW!! good old Audi UK...We have recently helped out a couple RS3 owners, 1 local to us Audi Tamworth told her the rattle on start up is normal  . so we had to do a report stating it was chain rattle.

Then a fellow 8p owner contacted us on FB about temp issues, After the problems we have had with our demo car i knew what it was. So we gave the gent the info needed for repair.. As his 8p went in several times to Audi and they said the temp gauge is normal not to sit at 90 :o .  Once the gent gave Audi the info for repair it came back out running at 90(funny that).

It is shocking unfortunately this is becoming even more common across all dealerships.

Indeed......

Very little knowledge at dealer level and a general distain for listening to any customer findings or suggestions.

It’s why I’ve all but given up taking my car anywhere near a dealer unless I have to.

It’s no coincidence that so many Audi owners have had so many ‘bad’ experiences at a dealership.......

I’m not in the trade so to speak, but know what makes my cars tick / what they need and when.

So many Audi technicians I’ve met over the years who don’t seem to know one end of the car from the other........ and that to me is terrible when you are spending upwards of 45k on their brand, yet when I go into a dealer I know more than the tech about the bloody car.

Standards and knowledge at Audi are sliding........

As they have used silicone around the gearbox and engine I think they know where the oil is coming from and hoping that silicone would hold it.

But we will wait and see what they come back with this time.

silicon is standard practice, as the timing chain doesn't have a gasket.

i wouldn't be surprised if it was coming from the vacuum pump as the gasket on them from manufacture are shocking quality. the pattern is wrong by about 2mm, when we did ours, we had to put silicon on in areas to make sure it didn't leak.

Thanks for the info, I might suggest the vacuum pump when they ring me.

I understand some silicone being used but not the amount they have used.

Exactly. Its the amount that's likely to be the problem. A product that might be OK in the hands of an expert, but not a muppet..

Update from Worthing

Apparently the oil is coming from the gearbox control unit cover...

We are not convinced that this is where it's coming from as the oil appears to be coming from a lot higher up and the last 2 times they have took the gearbox out there hasn't been any leaks at all... We asked them to double check around the head and they have come back with there the cylinder head is slightly discoloured but there's no leak.

Any thoughts on the above would be most appreciated.

They are refering to the mechatronic unit cover that sits on the front of the gearbox.....

I've replaced a mechatronic unit on the 3.2 TT we had a few years back.....it has a rubber seal and if the seal is placed on the cover correctly and the torx screws torqued up correctly there should be no leaks.

This is the mech unit with cover off.

There is also a gearbox oil cooler that sits on top of the box........if this is disturbed in anyway (i.e undone from the gearbox) it's 'O' rings can start leaking, you'd notice this by looking down onto the gearbox, its near the DSG oils filter.

Thank you so much!

This sounds very much like it. I will ask them to double check them whilst they are there.

Thanks again you have been very helpful.

Little help needed!

How much oil do you guys go through with your RS3's?

Worthing are trying to tell me that the RS3 should use around a litre of oil every 600 miles...

This doesn't seem right to me, can anyone help?

I did about 7,000 miles in my 8P in the 12 months that I owned it. It didn't use any oil at all in that time.

Hi Dannie,

In the time I owned your RS 3 I never had to put any oil into it in ~10K miles.~
I think Worthing are trying to feed you a load of HS

Following a bit of digging, i think Worthing are getting your 2.5 TFSI confused with the  2.0 TFSI engines witch (some) did exhibit an issue with excess oil consumption, but that was only 0.5L in 620 miles.

Mine didn't move on the dipstick between its last services in a year and almost 10k. My old 8p S3 was a different story though, it used to eat oil.
