Last piece of the fabrication jigsaw was made and fitted today by the in-house fabrication team at Litchfield...... a nice “little” boost pipe.

New engine was fired up late this afternoon.... dyno time very soon!

Nice to find this topic and very in depth report of your journey. I'm in a similar position thinking about swapping the CLA45 for a RS3 and go for a big turbo kit. Please update us, I'm really keen to see how your build goes

I have been off the site for a while as I too have been forging the car Shaunee We did manage a 10.66 - 133mph at Eastern Creek full street spec and weight 1622kg, mpss and 98, so, we are like you very excited at this next phase.
Like you we went external wastegate, but, have also added big cams.
Running it in this week and will be refining the tune around the 28/29th, so, it will be great to see what we can both produce on the dyno and at the strip.

Holy moley...... it will take me about 14 weeks to document how all this build has unravelled.
Apologies for the lack of updates guys.
There have been a number of challenges along the way from being let down by aftermarket suppliers, to delays in custom parts production, to complications that need resolving and also the fact that I am not my tuners only customer and work off the back of delays needs to be re-scheduled back in to the workshop etc. It's extreme goal modding life!
It is quite funny though as the rumours being spread behind my back have included "The engine has blown up twice!!" to "He can't afford the bill!!".
Don't you just love social media and keyboard warriors! All I can say is he who laughs last, laughs longest!
Fingers crossed the car should be back with me very shortly at which point I'll get you guys some much needed "data"!!!!
I'm already bracing myself and making plans now for what we need to do to the set-up to extract the most out of the next blower going on which will be the GTX3582. This will include manifold mods, fuel system overhaul and a rather funky new FMIC........ I might even get the head pulled and do some further work on that as well. Loads of testing and work still to do throughout 2019.
Hopefully the car will be where I want it to be by the time petrol runs out!!!
Here's to the new season starting at Santa Pod....... roll on April!!!!

Great read and fair play to Lichfield for carrying out a nice upgrade.
What I don't understand is, why do you seem to like wasting money? You say you have 3 turbos to test? Well they all have full spec charts from Garrett so you don't actaully need to test. You should really decide on two things, A all round set up or pure peak power. Seems like alot of drama on such a straight forward build.

Ben,
I do this as much for the write-ups and the journey sharing comparative information using the same car as I do about increasing my own personal learning. It's what I have always done with these types of projects. Sure, it costs much more to do this but I get more out of the journey, trying different things to see what the differences are, probably more so than the final setup. Historically I have done what I wanted to do and then move on to something else.
This project has been quite extreme for me in respect to the time frames and approach. Custom parts have been a killer for time frames. Pistons were custom made by Capricorn. Rods were custom made by Arrow. Turbo kit has been custom made by Nortech. I normally don't do off the shelf as I like to try something a bit different.
Minds have been changed along the way...... several times, which doesn't help getting things finished. That's been all my doing so I can't blame anyone else. I went into this with my eyes wide open so appreciate I could have done this much easier and cheaper in many ways, but I would have got bored and moved on to something else. I have also had a lot going on in my personal life over the past 18 months and the car has taken a substantial back seat in my list of priorities. I'm back up to ramming speed now though.
I'm in for the long haul on this project....... I'm in way too deep.

I would have to have another RS3 to use whilst this one was getting done cos I’ve just not got the patience to wait for anything. Fair play to you and good luck with the build I’m sure it will be worth it in the end

Don’t get me wrong.... this has taken way longer than I had envisaged. I’d originally thought that a hybrid EFR would do me initially.... agreed spec with Litchfield and Turbo Dynamics, had it fitted and mapped.... saw the results and thought “nah.... too weak!”

Had this not been a second car/weekend toy I would have never gone down this route for sure.
I’d even got to one point where I was considering in buying a TTRS to fill the void until the RS3 was finished. Now that would have been crazy!!!

I’m basically weak!!!

Quiet fun police it makes good reading, plus he’s single handedly reversing Brexit with what’s being invested in the car
Personally your bonkers and have some seriously deep pockets.

Would love to have the money and patience to take a similar approach with either of my cars, but long story short I don’t

If Lichfield had the patch sorted to get past 1.5bar the EFR would of achieved more then 500ps. As my hybrid TTU510S achieved 510ps at 1.9bar.... maybe use some one else to tune the car?
