I value the opinion of multiple RS3 owners who have actually driven one vs the opinion of someone who sits at home in front of his PC pretending to be king know it all;)

Yet another thread on its way to caos! FFS!
I drove the ttrs and it's quicker than the RS3 hands down! No argument. It might not be nice to hear, but it's fact!
Saying that I'd have my RS3 over a faster ttrs any day. Ours sound better, and practicality wise, there's no contest!

I don't think it had the sports exhaust fitted. There's still hope!

Well this went from 0-100 real quick...a bit like the TTRS when it leaves the RS3 behind in a drag race!

Anyway, Terminator X aka Public Enemy #1 trying to live up to that name, go and test drive a TTRS and let us know your thoughts before being a keyboard warrior with ZERO experienced opinion to dash the experienced opinion of someone who owns an RS3 and has DRIVEN for 3 DAYS, TTRS.

The TTRS is quicker than the RS3 fact - it has more power/torque from stock anyway so i don't see why you're even trying to argue the toss.

Great little write up Dan,  cant wait to see one of these blasting about and see how well they go.

Fingers crossed! If the sports exhaust is as loud as ours then the ttrs is even better! Just not practical enough!

Looking forward to hearing the sports exhaust now!

Did you manage to adjust any spec or have you had to take the spec Audi/dealer has decided?

I appreciate they are coming through fairly well specced it just put me off as i've vowed if i have a new order car i want to sit and tick boxes.

All UK Cars were Speced by Audi on the Coupe seem to be about 4 different Levels Poverty Spec @ about £54500 (All With Speed Limiter Increase) some at Just under £56K Some at Just under £58K (Same as Mine) and some fully Speced ones at about £63K They all have to be Registered before the end of the year as well Not sure when they will Re-Launch The TTRS that many different rumours going round but I would expect it to come to the Audi Configurator Early Next Year.

Poverty spec = 54500k

With limited numbers I'm sure it won't be long before they are all snapped up....

In contrast to the poverty spec car checkout the blue TTRS in the Pistonheads Youtube review..........it's at the the other end of the price spectrum with a list of options making it £68K. Now I know it's a fast car, and I am a fan of Audi's, but at that price I would be looking at something like a low mileage nearly new RS6, or new BMW M3/4, the new Alfa Quadrifoglio specced with carbon ceramics etc etc etc.....

While I completely agree with what you say, Audi will not give a stuff. They know they will sell all they can make at the price point, there are enough people in the world with the financial means to have ALL the cars in your list already, buy one of these TTRS's and then wait... Look at the Porsche Cayman GT4. Limited edition model. High price point for a Cayman when new. Now demanding around £120k if you want one.

I guess Audi are hoping for the same with the TTRS...

Agreed.........

I'd be looking to get my head felt paying that much

For me it'd have to be the RS6 for sheer practicality

Had a test drive this morning in the car above. I also had an RS3 65 plate out a few days ago along with an Alfa QF, all on similiar or the same roads.  I missed out on the 8V RS3 as I couldn't quite afford to jump from the S3 to the RS as I would lose too much money as I wasn't long into the PCP for the S3. I almost bought the 65 plate one but in the end the monthlies were the same as a new TTS due to poor GMFV and high interest rates. So anyway, I have my deposit ready and have worked out what I can afford a month and how much neg eq the S3 is in.

The dealer had sourced the demo car from Audi direct as their one was sold before it arrived. Doing this I have to assume that they are going to open the order books soon enough, otherwise why pay to have a demo for a couple of days for people to drive. The weather today was very wet with water standing on the roads.I tested it on A and B roads only.

Postives - Nice driving position when compared to the S3/RS3. You sit lower and everything is focussed on you as the driver. Virtual cockpit is nice but nothing amazing and you soon get used to it. Steering wheel feels nice in the hands with the alcantara where it should be. I could see that looking nasty after a few thousands miles though. The driving position is better and ride quality is also better with the mag ride, even in dynamic it rides so much better than standard.

It is bloody quick and has far better pick up than the current RS3. Dealer wouldn't let me launch the car, but from a standstill it feels very quick indeed. S-tronic handles everything with ease as well, no jumping or stuttering from the gearbox. Sport mode is also well behaved like it is on the RS3. Handling and drive wise it is a more driver focussed car than the S3/RS3 and you don't notice the heavy front end at all. Corner speed is impressive as is the traction on offer. Brakes are also spot on with plenty of feedback and no noise. I also thought that the cabin was also nice and quiet.

The most impressive thing was the speed and assured nature of the handling in such poor weather conditions. The RS3/S3 are also good in this respect, whereas I wasn't confident at all with the rear wheel drive Alfa QF which was fighting with the traction control everytime you put the foot down or took a corner. Alfa is just not for me.

Negatives - The new 5 cylinder is very muted in terms of sound. No matter what drive mode, how many times we cycled through modes and switched the exhaust button or put it in sport, it just didn't come close to the RS3 in terms of noise and occasion. For me the engine and noise is number one on the wants list when it comes to the TTRS and it sadly just isn't very special and there is no overrun popping and banging that should be there. This car did have the sports exhaust and there was a 5 cylinder burble on start up with some pops, but that's it. Given the price difference over the TTS I honestly think you would be better off buying the TTS as there is just no sense of occasion with the TTRS in terms of noise. And on public roads there is just not enough difference in performance to justify the price difference in my humble opinon.

The negatives shocked me a little and put a spanner in the works as I wanted to love this car and to be honest it only achieved 75% of the magic it should have. The recent time spent with the RS3 made it quite obvious it is special when it comes to occasion and noise. The TTRS is very muted in that regard and I really hope the new RS3 models are not the same. Feeling quite let down this afternoon and not really sure where to go next. I have been promised a long term test drive IF they get their own demo car in. Mixed feelings at the moment.

Obviously these are just my thoughts based on my needs and might not be the same as yours. I have tried to be honest, balanced and fair with my assessments.

Hmmm a nice write up there Foxtrot Oscar. So now we have another review saying that it is quicker and better handling (as expected and warranted for the price/class of car) but you were underwhelmed by it. For me this is a surprise, after the heady review from Dan.

As T-800 said, very nice to read your honest opinion, even if it is mixed. Not everyone is necessarily interested purely in the straight line speed, but the overall product. And obviously it would be pretty foolish to put your hard-earned into something you're not 100% with. This, once again, shows that we are all different and do not like the same things!!

Sounds like they have definitely toned down the exhaust noise, and to be fair the RS3 sports exhaust is comically loud in dynamic mode. As you say, maybe the FL versions of the RS3 will be the same. No one can answer that yet, though.

Collected mine couple of weeks back but been full of Cold so not had much chance to Drive it yet

Very impressed with the virtual Dashboard (I do like new Gadgets) Nice Driving position and seems quite a bit more room inside over the MK2 Exhaust Noise with the Sport Exhaust's is about the same as a Std System of the RS3 Will try to get out over the next week to play and get some decent photo's up.

We're now thinking our RS3 with the Sports Exhaust is rather ASBO compared to the TTRS - from inside the car anyway. Doors open sounds the same, but it's quite muted from inside on the move until you give it some welly.

Felt very planted in the wet conditions we have today down here. Standard suspension meant it's stiffer than our mag ride in comfort road.

So easy to get to silly speeds though
