Tesco 99, always have and its been fine. I did wonder if i had too much air in my tyres to lose grip? Only thing i have got is decats but didn't think that would make much difference.

A proposal...

It's been virtually proven on here that decats add a good 10bhp so I very much doubt that!

Try v power, know someone that had vectra vxr that had been mapped and every time it went limp mode if using sport mode. He sold it in the end and got something else but then spoke to someone else who tuned cars and said he'd had customers with similar issues and they changed fuel and it was ok. Apparently tesco 99 has a higher percentage of bio content. Only what I've heard!

BP is only 97 octane, they used to do 102 at selected stations but you had to pay through the ass for it, they dropped it years ago.Cant wait for next week to see what is happening! I always use tesco fuel and i do have a BP near me but never really got on with it.
I use Tesco as well and have never had an issue with it, I would not turn my nose up at vPower either

Eigdoog,
It's not unheard of to experience "quality" issues with Tesco fuel, and tbh you wouldn't really notice a bit of ignition retard day to day.
It might have been fuel. It could have been really bad conditions at the pod.
BP Ultimate is not the best fuel out there, so I would recommend you don't throw that stuff in, unless you really need to.

Been using Tesco Momentum from day one in my car, only alternate to Shell V Power if I cannot find a Tesco station to fill up.
Does it make a difference? Well I know it does in tuned cars, my stage 1 tuned S4 made around 10 - 12bhp more when running the higher octane fuel.
I guess it's nice to think that our cars are getting a 'healthy diet'. My missus thinks I'm nuts when I drive around for miles just looking for specific types of fuel

I would say if both fuels were "fresh" there would be nothing in it.So is the good tesco stuff better than she'll v-power? I've always used v-power but feel like I may be missing a trick here??

Monopole, have you had any issues with overheating since you had the tuning box? I'm sure I read somewhere on here about someone having a Revo remap and found their engine was overheating?

One is 99 RON (Tesco Momentum) and the other (Shell V Power) slightly less at 98 RON so not a lot in it.
Well known Audi tuner MRC have a lot of cars turn up running either one of these fuels but seem to get more consistent results on the Tesco fuel for TUNED cars.
As for a standard car, well I guess you pay your money and have your own preference. I run the Tesco fuel because its slightly cheaper than Shell, you get Tesco points and the car seems to like it.
We will find out how well it goes from the dyno results this coming Saturday!

I believe that in the UK VPower is also 99 octane, in Europe VP is 98 octane. One is 99 RON (Tesco Momentum) and the other (Shell V Power) slightly less at 98 RON so not a lot in it.

Indeed sir you are correct after checking through various websites it seems that Shell V-Power Nitro + is claimed to be 99 RON - well spotted.

That's interesting, from what I've read the Revo remap seems to give more mid range power and tends to die off a little at the top end. Glad to hear you haven't had any heating issues 👍🏻
I did wonder about the overheating gbox probs others are having with maps, but the MTM seems to relish top end revs, and dropping gears to 5k + and flooring it. Surprises a lot of stuff on the road.

I have been running various tuned cars for over 20 years, never seem to able to keep a car standard (resisted so far with the RS3 but that may change after this weekend.) In that time period I have mostly used reputable tuning companies (we all have our favourites) to fine tune and tailor the cars modifications with a custom remap. I have only ever used the 'off the shelf generic plug and and play approach' on two occasions, both of which resulted in less than expected results or unacceptable problems, the most recent in 2012 where I had to have the product removed before it damaged my engine.
Every engine performs slightly differently, has different fuels (see posts above), oils and servicing regimes and may even have a few running problems lurking undetected (the RS3 low fuel pressure issue for example).
For this reason I like to use a tuning company that can give your car a health check before any extra pressure is put on the mechanical parts and also have the capability to plot data using a dyno, or out on the road using OBD connection with a laptop to view live data logging.
However, technology moves at a rapid pace and despite my possible prejudices towards tuning boxes and generic mapping, I am hoping that the experiment with the MTM box this weekend will provide some new options.

That's helpful and a really interesting post, thanks. I've very limited experience with remapping cars (only one previously) and although I'm happy with the RS3 as it currently stands in sure it'll become increasingly tempting!
