On another note I called in to Bolton Audi today to see if my car was still there and how the chain situation was
progressing. All the parts have arrived from Germany today.Eager to know when it will be finished but was told the
only Tech that could do the job on my car has booked a week off work.He timed that well.

separate recordings of the noise ,7 weeks off the road and they haven`t even taken anything apart yet and the tech that didn`t want to do it in the first place is absent.

Can`t disagree with that.I`ll still use the Audi recommended 5/30 though.

Does that fill you with confidence or dread ?
It's crazy to think that 1 tech out of them all is only capable of doing the chains
These guys have well equipped workshops and all the gear/access to procedures and yet they seem scared at jobs like this
I'd relish doing a job like that, imagine being able to take that engine to bits and having the satisfaction of sorting it once and for all...........
They should be able to do jobs like this standing on their heads.

They'd rather do an easy job like service a car and get paid the same..

I spoke too soon. Bolton phoned .The chain is beyond the capabilities of their Master Tech. Now they have to get a Super Tech in.Probably just the same but wears his cap with the peak at the front.

I really don't get this, I really don't get this at all. I've been in engines from pencil to spanners and unless I'm seriously mistaken and I've just looked under my bonnet it's just a 5-pot dohc engine
Now I've a local guy and each and every time I visit him (Karl) he's got his head and hands close by something hot and oily. Be it a Merc V8, Subaru flat-4, a 911 flat-6 (Karl has one ), EVO, Skyline, Radical, Audi A2, Lotus Esprit V8, and/or even Princess Anne's Scimitar, Karl has zero issue getting the lump out, sorted, and back-in again always with a seemingly very happy customer. Ok, he may have to wait for parts but no way does he stand there looking at it with silly negative like words emitting
This timing chain issue is just ridiculous; I just don't get the can't (or won't do???) do attitude...

Ring Audi UK
Tell them you aren't happy with the whole situation and you want an S/RS loan vehicle at the very least.
If you don't get any joy or they try fobbing you off send an email to Andre.Konsbruck@Audi.co.uk
Put in detail all the messing about and time you've been without the RS and tell them it's the least they can do, given the crappy service you've had.

I completely agree with you. I build race engines for a living for the last 32 years.I would love to get inside mine and told Audi UK I would be prepared to do it myself if they provided the parts. Big no no. Warranty invalidated. They have to do it.

It's shocking it really is John...........
It beggars belief that they are incapable/scared/whatever....of doing the work.
They should be embracing the opportunity and just getting the f**k on with it.
I wouldn't mind this is one of 'simpler' engines compared to what's in RS4/RS6/RS7/R8 etc......
Scandalous
And I can't even comment what's going on with mine.....
