  • LocationIn a barge near Roy's old barge

I spoke to someone yesterday and they recommended I get the Alcon set up, as the car wouldn’t ever be doing any track work, and they said the AP Racing kit is better on the track and need some heat in them to get some feel, how do they feel when they are cold mate? Thanks

Not noticed anything tbf so they must be ok cold.

The cold feeling of the brakes depends on pad compound used not the caliper or disc set up.

A soft pad will give a better feel from cold & a harder pad will get better with heat for the same effect.

Thanks for the information Dell, that makes sense now 👍
Think I’ll go for the one that I can get the best deal on, and go for a softer pad

The DS performance pads i used on the 8V where superb cold.....then only seemed to get better the more they were used, so as Dell says really getting heat into certain types of pad material makes them work better the more they are used.

It would be great then if we could get 3 8p owners to order the Alcon discs from Litchfield, great saving as they would be 850£ instead of about 1200 from Europe

If you are still looking to go for a set of these I’ll order a set also. That would just leave one other to get a good price.

Ive spoken to Martin & Tony a few times & they are very helpful especially as they didn't make at that time a rear 310mm disc for our RSs.

They now have a pattern thank to Jay at that well known emporium RS3Parts4U who loaned me a 2nd hand rear disc. Thanks again Jay 👍

Reyland make all there discs/bells themself & the replacement rotas are at a later date reasonably priced.😊

They also recommend Ferodos DS2500 for there discs.

Sounds like a no brainier to be honest Dell! I’ve just messaged them 👍🏻

Jay is the man, I have to say this has to be the best forum I’ve been a member of to date.

I’ve been running these on the front for a while now Dell 😉 A bit noisy tbh due to the closeness of the bells to the pads. Appears to be related to the holes in the bells where the pressure springs clamp the rotor to the bell. Kind of sounds like having playing cards on your push bike wheel when you were a kid 😂
