G'day Gents,

I procured an H&R Rear bar this week (from Ralph at TruTrack in North Melbourne, a real pro) and while it's not cheap at nearly A$500, it's certainly well made and finished. The rear bar is dia. 25 mm and has the markings "HR 33784 HA ®". I can also confirm that news of the bars being sold as a set (at least at present) appear to be correct, and attract an additional fee for splitting.

Taking a good look underneath it appears likely the rear muffler and pipe assembly will have to come off to gain clearance for swapping out the standard bar.

I'd welcome confirmation from forum members who may have performed a swap on an 8V of whether this is required, or whether there is a trick that's eluding me? I started replacement yesterday and progressed quite a way before deciding it was unlikely to be able to be "cranked" out without further surgery.

Thanks as always to our learned technical stewards.

My local tuner said it's a 25min job so shouldn't need any part of the exhaust system to be removed! Very straight forward swap over (if you know what you're doing I suppose)

I Agree

It's literally undoing the links then the 'U' clamps and then wiggle it out.....the ARB that is

Well after a bit of a wait for delivery from Germany, the ARB has arrived!

Timing is a bit cr*p though as I am now going to be very busy for the next few weeks and probably wont get it fitted until after the Easter break.

Will update when its on.

Hello friends,

yesterday I fitted the rear H&R 25 mm ARB. After a few kilometers I'd say that it's another car. No understeer anymore. It's a must. Very easy to fit, not exhaust remove needed.71882af8f954dc93e707fecc3a35fb8c.jpgd5601a90adfe92ec4418dcca9ae2464f.jpgd8799f2d74668ae99aae80caeb5503da.jpg9d65c0a5ee177dfa93b9de851bb9b3fc.jpg

Yes, H&R signature colour is the purple blue. You can see the logo on the bar shown on top of the box.

These sound like a good investment for handling, anyone had any longer term reviews?

Well I fitted an H&R ARB this afternoon. Did it with the car on the drive and a jack.

Didn't remove any wheels or the exhaust system................

However, before you go out and attempt this yourself you need to know that it was not a 25 minute DIY job - it actually took an hour and a half and was not the easiest of jobs to do. Now that I know which bolts can be loosened off or removed, it would no doubt be quicker if I have to do it again.

Points to note for any DIY fitters.

1) Doing it on the drive is not the best way, when all the bolts are off you need the space under the car to twist and tease the shape of the OEM ARB out, and then to fit the new one. Do yourself a favour and either get the car up on a ramp or let a garage fit the damn thing!

2) The exhaust does not need to be removed...... however........... if you unbolt the two rear support bolts which are underneath at the back next to each of the large round tail pipes, the rear box and pipes will drop down enough to give you a bit more space to fiddle the ARB in and out.

3) The ARB was easier to remove if you also undo/loosen the drop link mounting bolts and tap the drop link out of the way on each side.

Now that it is fitted the first impressions after a short drive ............ it makes the car feel much more planted through the corners, - seems to be a worthwhile mod.

Thought I would post a bit of an update on the ARB.

Have to say that it has made a really noticeable change in how the car handles.

The car balance feels much more 'neutral' and the turn in is much more more positive now (certainly better than before with way less understeer).

It doesn't appear to have adversely affected the ride comfort in any way either. Haven't had chance to try it in wet conditions (see if it has changed grip characteristics) but overall I think it is a great mod to improve the handling of the standard set up of the car.
