So the spark plug sits inside the coil pack?

The coil pack goes over the top of the white ceramic part of the plug, with the tip making contact with the coil.

Gotcha! So when you hear people saying about reducing the gap of a spark plug how is that possible if it will only go so far into the coil and only drop so far down?

Ah ok. I take it when misfiring happens and people say changing the coil pack it's purely a electrical connectors issue or is there some science in the coil tube?

Jay a misfire can be caused by a badly gapped/faulty spark plug or a faulty coil pack.

I had my plugs re-gapped when I was running a high power Impreza (450hp in an original one) as the "experts" felt that the plugs were being blown out!

On the subject of spark plugs.

Can I ask on a mapped 8P engine giving aprox 400 bhp and 490 lb/ft, what plugs and what gap should you use if not standard.

How often should you change them.

Thanks

No experience of this personally but 034 web-site recommends Denso IKH24 at 0.024" https://store.034mot...24-iridium.html

Hopefully others will be able to give a more informed reply for ya.

Standard OEM VAG plugs at the preset gaps will do you fine. Change annually if you use your car as a daily driver/average mileage car. If you do minimal mileage then probably examine on an annual basis changing as required

Aren't plugs changed on every major service (as it's included as part of the price)

No Jay. Audi don't even look at the plugs. From my experience the plug change at 19K doesn't even show on Audi's system when they check the maintenance schedule for our cars. Hence why mine weren't changed for 32K.

I bought my car with just over 20K on it so just assumed they would have been done. I was wrong as it turned out.
