The brochure is littered with mistakes

As someone who flirted with proof-reading as an alernative 'stay-at-home' income stream and so has half an eye for 'mistakes' I have to say I find it hard to understand a company, who perceive themselves in the quality sector, making so many fundamenatal errors in both web and published material. Just for fun I contacted them over the 19" wheels with R16 tyres that the S3 configurator threw up and they phoned me yesterday to acknowledge the contact at least. No offer of well paid employment as part of their proof reading team accompanied that ...

Just hope when the car is built it isn't littered with mistakes........ Especially the 19" brakes

Maybe the fitment of 19" brakes is deliberate and explains the poor choice of available wheels?  You just fit the tyres straight on the brakes....

I spoke to Audi UK today and was told there are supply problems with the ceramic brakes across the Audi range. The supplier currently has a problem with the manufacturing process and there was no eta which is why they were left out of the RS3 brochure.

Tell me about it. Worst case scenario if i can find a mint set of the buckets out of a b7 rs4 ill just put them in. They are IMO the best looking seats and stop me sliding around like a cat on wet floor :)

I wish someone from Audi would have a look on these forums and see what people are saying.

People order them because Audi's brake partner Brembo can't make decent brakes for their RS models so customers see ceramics as the solution. If they went to AP or Wilwood, we wouldn't see as many on ceramics.

They're not going to be like the B7 RS4, they'll have carbon fiber shell and side airbag. They can dramatically improve the interiors, actually in my S3 8V I have super sport seats and they're nothing special, something like you could have in an A3 1.4 TFSI S line.

Anyone else noticed the unladen weight? The brochure lists it as 1520kg whereas the S3 sportback with DSG is 1455kg. Is the engine really 65kg heavier for an extra cylinder, if not what else could cause that discrepancy, wheels?

The extra weight will be from the engine, updated gearbox for the power, brakes and exhaust so not all engine

I was thinking the same, maybe the gearbox is heavier too ! Wider wheels perhaps

You've hit the nail squarely on the head. The extra weight is almost entirely due to the heavier five cylinder engine block and 7-speed gearbox. Having an extra 60 kg over the front wheels contributes to understeer, tyre wear and increased fuel consumption versus the S3 and AMG A45. The new Haldex 5 AWD system goes some way to offsetting the problem, by being able to channel up to 100% of the power to back wheels! But will only do this when traction is an issue. Selecting the wider front tyres is essential if you ask me, to improve grip and turn-in. The extra weight also makes the react more violently too bumps and potholes, so I'd say that Magnetic ride is fairly vital too.

All in all, the Gen 2 RS3 is still a wonderful car. It certainly improves upon the existing model. The MQB platform was always a great start point. Whether the RS3 is a better car than a tuned S3 remains to be seen. I go back to the earlier (and possibly annoying) post I made, where I said I would have liked to see the 400 bhp engine shown in the Golf R400 used in the RS3. I feel it isn't the step forward I hoped it would be. I don't plan to get one, at least not yet. If VW do release a Golf RS with a 400 bhp EA888, my deposit goes down tomorrow and even quicker if it's an A3 model. It'll be interesting to see how AMG revises the A45 Merc, but I'm not holding my breath - the A-Class has so many other compromises.

Meanwhile, the brochure is a shambles.

Seems to me Audi have made a mistake, perhaps they should've offered a 2.5 engine delete option, with the 'superior' EA888 as an option in its place.......
Golf R400 blah blah blah
The same ones that are saying if they make that Golf R400, "I'd have one tomorrow" are the same as the ones that are now saying, oooh I don't want that RS3 now because I can't have this or I don't want that on it.......

Just received this from Audi regarding my queries Emailed on Monday.....

Audi have many cars they will release in a year, but only one Geneva motor show, hence why cars are often previewed at the motor show such as the R8 E-tron. Luckily we now know that the RS3 is now open for ordering in the UK, and some great news is that I have answers to your main questions from Monday:

The answers are below:

1.At Geneva (customer was at the show) ceramic brakes were said to be an option – not contained in brochure Ceramic brakes start production later in the year (likely to be Q4)- once this is confirmed they will be added into the brochure

2.At Geneva bucket seats were said to be an option – not in the brochure Bucket seats also start production later in the year (likely to be Q4)- once this is confirmed they will be added into the brochure

3.At Geneva carbon dash inlays were said to be an option. May be introduced at a later date.

4.Customer asks why a carbon exterior styling package is made available for the RS6 and 7, but not this new RS3? This is currently not available from the factory – they may develop something for the future but no plans currently

5.Queries Nav not standard whereas it was standard on his current RS3… Unfortunately navigation is not standard, preparation for nav is, which allows the customer to have it retrofitted if they choose to want nav after they get the car

6.On the brochure the standard spec suggests that the colour DIS (trip computer) has a 7” colour display – which is incorrect. Apologies, this will be amended ASAP

So for those of you that want buckets and / or ceramics you may have to wait until at least Q4 2015 before ordering.

I know some may not agree but that is actually a sound idea. I have always been banging on about the problems 'upgrading' when a car is on the second, or more, owner and this is a step in the right direction.

I would be interested to see whether options on the Mark 2 could be "officially" i.e. dont effect the warranty fitted to a Mark 1 .. like the sports exhaust for example.

Son of a...i am goingto see if i can get my Audi guy to commit to saying that if the buckets do get released that they will supply them at a discounted rate or something, because I asked him and he said that they are unlikely to have them.

This has really pissed me off ....Q4?
