Guys,

No market has had final specifications released yet. Not sure if Swiss specs in Italian quoted above are legit. You can definitely order a new RS3 now, you just need to drop a £1K deposit with a dealer. Website configurator should be up by the end of the month. This isn't a failure by Audi but what they said all along.

On a related note, I keep hearing a rumour that there will be a further Audi A3 model that sits above the RS3. We know a Golf R400 is coming in September. It will have 400-420 bhp in a lightened body (1420 kg instead of 1800 kg) and will crack 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and, unlimited, the top speed is 190 mph. The engine is a highly tuned version of the standard inline 2.0-litre four engine in the S3, Golf GTI and Golf R. it sounds just as growly as the RS3's inline five. Audi showed it in the TT ClubSport Concept at Geneva last year. With 400+ bhp such a vehicle would obviously sit above RS3.

I will get a car with this engine over a new RS3.

That 1k deposit is a build slot deposit basically reserving you first rights when it comes to being able to order then after that you pay 10% of over all cost of car then they start putting it together

Do we know if the led lights are standard or, if not, what the cost will be? B)

Just received an update email from my dealer to say that 'the RS3 has been delayed by the Audi Product Marketing team and will be released once the problem is sorted'
No idea what this means!

I don't think they are particularly ahead of the curve but he's a mate so just drip feeds any info he gets from HQ. Not sure whether he is meant to be releasing this info or not so would rather not drop him in it just in case!

Ughh...I started out planning to buy a Golf R but the earliest delivery was October and I foolishly thought the RS3 would come sooner....  Getting bored waiting already...maybe time for a trip to Benz ;-)

Sounds familiar. Head says I should be waiting for a golf r estate, heart says why would you even consider it when you could get an RS3.
I tried merc as well as the c450 amg was intriguing but they're even more useless than Audi or VW with information.

Actually I booked a test drive of a GLA AMG.  Nice lady rang me to confirm the test drive booking and I went along to (Cambridge) Merc.  Sales Oik sat me down and asked whether I wanted petrol or diesel.  No AMG arranged, might be one in the fleet somewhere Sir but we'd have to get it in for you.  Naturally I gave him an ear-full.  Seriously unimpressed.  Before I left I made him sit me in a non-AMG GLA.  I didn't fit - no headroom at all, which is bizarre because the brochure shows over a metre of headroom which is plenty, even for a lanky fat bu99er like me.  So Merc lie and their brochures lie.

So off I went back to VW to have another go in the R.  Very helpful and knowledgeable sales guy.  While I was there I asked whether the filler cap seal that I'd ordered had come in.  At the GTI's service the previous week they'd told me it needed a new seal and - naturally - it wasn't in stock so they ordered one.  I asked whether I could just collect it next time I was passing and fit it myself, because I live about 10 miles away and didn't want to make an extra trip just to get them to fit the seal.  The service lady went off to check and came back and said yes I could fit it myself.  So...while I was in the showroom I asked if it had come in.  Yes it has.  Can I have it then?  No you can't, we have to fit it.  But you told me I could fit it myself.  Not by us Sir.  Well fit it for me then.  No, you'll have to make an appointment and come back.  But it's a 10 mile trip and it's only a bloody filler cap seal!  Sorry said the jobs-worth.  So I complained to my sales guy who dragged in the general manager of Vindis who bo11ocked the jobsworth and made them fit it 'right now'.  Shame you have to threaten to buy a £35k car to get them to pull their finger out.

That's when I headed straight off to Audi.

The thing is the noise , lovely though it is, comes from the exhaust and not from the engine - if you know what i mean? My C63 was the same - all the noise is from teh exhaust and the actual mechanical engine noise is quite muted. And from the rear the exhaust on the R400 looks a mess - probably because its large diameter in the middle of the car? Lacks the visual beauty of pipes at the outer extremities of the car ?All imho of course  :)

I drove the Golf R (270PS) back to back with the S3 (old one so 265PS) and though it a bit of a hooligan and the interior with the blue lighting seemed a bit Tesco Saturday Evening Car Park ?

Wont dispute the R400 looks pretty in a muscular way

Good point! I violently agree that RS3 five-pot makes a glorious noise. Despite the aural disadvantage, Audi intends to launch a limited edition A3 model that sits above the RS3 with the 400 bho EA888 engine. It should look much more aggressive. The really important thing about this model is that the amount of weight over the front wheels should be vastly reduced (30-40 kgs). That'll make a big difference to ride and handling, and will eliminate under steer without needing to have wider front tyres. My guess is that it'll be called the A3 Club Sport. Both the A3 and Golf R400 will be amazing cars.
