Nobody else suffering from abnormal brake vibration (only under braking)?

I don't know if to get the new revised parts from Audi, or just get the Loba BBK 6 pot kit. Price will be the same for me...

I wonder if it is pad deposition rather than warping. Just abuse the brakes which will clean them up a bit and unclog the crossdrilled holes if necessary. Other small factors which you may do already; don't sit on the footbrake when stationary instead putting it in neutral with handbrake on and at night just leave it in park mde with handbrake off.Habits of a B7 RS4 owner which is known to be problematic with its brakes.

Morning all,

Still haven't sorted out my brakes.. contacted my dealer several times... and they've not heard anything official from Audi UK HQ.

I'm gonna try to call their customer care number.. was wondering if anyone can provide a reference number I can use?

Cheers

Hi there,

Got in touch with my dealer, quoted them the reference code..

After a wait for 10 mins on the line.. they got back to say,

apologises, but that reference code is not applicable to my batch of RS3s!

They will check with Audi UK to see if it's required.. but they did a reference check on my chassis number and do not think it's applicable....

Utter crap!

The brake fix is for EVERY RS3 that suffers from squeal, Its not model year or chassis number dependant.

Ring Audi UK customer service direct and explain your brake issue and lack of dealers knowledge or use.

That should get the ball rolling for you :)

Yea, tell me about it.. they said it was a safety issue.. they can't do any mods unless it's official from Audi UK direct.

Annoying bit was having to repeat my story over and over again...

Urgh.. my local dealer still haven't got back to me.. rang them up to demand to speak to the service manager.. but could not get hold of them..

Will ring Audi UK customer care again to complain.

Query - with regards to the fix, has Audi replaced the entire lot for all 4 brakes? or just the 2 fronts?

As the discs are getting somewhat rusty..

The front brake hubs? where they say 'made in germany' is getting bit corroded as well.. hopefully all of that will be part of the fix.

Hi All,

New to the site. Found it most useful in proving my case in regard to the brake squeal. So thanks for all of your posts.

Just waiting on mine to be returned after having brake kit replaced.

What a nightmare! Car is 18 months old, in that time 3 sets of pads and 3 set of tyres. Then to be told discs need replacing was when I'd had enough. This is all during the time I was questioning the 'brake squeal' and wheel judder between 75 and 80mph.

Car is currently at a Bentley garage waiting for the wheels to be 'dynamically' balanced'. They've had it just over a week.

Anyone had a solution to the wheel judder?

Thanks

Cressa, welcome to the club. Are you having the wheels balanced via a Hunter balancing machine? Very keen to know if this eliminates the problem. Keep us posted. Mine is with Audi for the 5th time to try and solve the steering wheel shake. They don't have the Hunter, but I understand this is the best balancing machine.

Hi Danny,

Pick car up tomorrow, all I know is that its been to a Bentley garage. they say problem has been sorted. Audi are going to give it a road test to see if problems has been sorted. I will ask if it was balanced using a Hunter balancing machine.

Have you had to change tyres at all. I'm on 3rd set and i'm trying to prove it has something to do with the wheel judder. Long shot but worth a try.

Which brand tyres have you used?

If the Hunter sorts the wheel vibration let us know, oh and when does it vibrate?

I had my front wheels Dynamically Balanced a few weeks ago and it cured the problem..Heres the tech info of DYNAMIC IMBALANCE .A wheel might be in static balance but not dynamically balanced.  If a tire has been statically balanced by putting all of the counter weight on one side of the wheel, that weight creates a dynamic imbalance once the wheel is spinning causing a side to side shimmy.  The correct way to balance a wheel statically is to split the weight amount in half and place equal weight amounts on both sides of the wheel.  Some tire manufacturers recommend this procedure when the amount of weight exceeds 20 grams or .71 ounce.  It is unlikely for a tire to have a static imbalance and not have a dynamic imbalance as well.  When a wheel and tire have been dynamically balanced, both types of imbalances can be eliminated.  Dynamic balance means balance in motion.  It is also called two-plane balance because it measures side to side (lateral) force as well as up and down (axial or radial) force.  Lateral forces are noticeable when a steering wheel moves back and forth.  A computer wheel balancer spins the wheel and determines the locations and amounts of vibration.  The computer splits the tire into two halves and measures both lateral and radial forces on each side of the tire's center.  Weights are added to each side of the wheel to correct the imbalance.  Therefore, a tire that is dynamically balanced is also statically balanced.  Dynamic balancing can be performed with a computer wheel balancer or with an on-the-car spin balancer.
