Rears

Right so this morning I tackled the rear springs.

Official Audi Elsawin says these can be compressed then removed, bollox not a chance!!

You need to pop out the plastic centre piece in the cup.
Screwdriver and gently prise the 4 tabs, it can then be removed from inside the spring.

Undo mag ride level sensor, located by 2 Torx screws on the arm.

Undo the anti-roll bar drop link where it sits in the arm followed by the strut bolt/nut and the outer hub bush /Bolt & nut

Have your second jack support the arm while you remove the bolts, a gentle tap gets them out.

Let the jack down a little and the spring will come out very easily again pay attention to the rubber fittings top and bottom.

Take off the rubber fittings and fit to the new spring.
Make sure the bottom one is in the correct position, there’s a recess for guidance.
Also make sure when you refit in the cup holder that you have the rubber locating pin in the hole.

Re-insert the plastic centre piece you popped out from the spring base/cup at the start, make sure the clips engage.

Once the new spring is seated correctly you can jack the arm back up enough to align the 3 holes, then insert the bolt for the drop link first, MagRide strut, then outer Bush / hub

I then jacked up the whole assembly to simulate a load and then tightened all three up.
You can also do the same if you put the wheel back on and allow the cars weight back on the suspension , however you’d still need to sit the rear wheels on something to allow you the room to do this or you may have a four post ramp so even better

Reconnect the Mag Ride level sensor to the arm.

Check over everything and make sure you are happy.

Put the wheel on.

I must add

I’m allowing a few days for things to settle etc.

I’ll then be having alignment and carrying out a full mag ride re-adaptation so the system knows it’s new default positions.

First impressions so far are good.

Very smooth and the ā€˜crashy’ effect of the OEM springs is no longer there.

Obviously I’ll reap the full benefits after the 2 processes above.

Drop currently is around 20mm.

Yes matey

No don’t need them.

Never felt the need either to be fair.

My Winter RS6 wheels are E47 and 8.5j all round so fill out the arches nicer.

Do those springs have a softer rate.? When you say they reduce the crashiness surely they are softer.

Honest answer Neil is I don’t know.

I just know it now feels better when encountering rough / crappy roads

Maybe my view will change once the MagRide is recalibrated because when fitting springs is usually when you lose the definition between modes.

Although I’m expecting them to actually get better once it’s done.

It’s the reason I chose the Eibach pros over all the others.

Everyone I know who has them always rates them.

The drop is very subtle too.

Just checked on their website. The springs are progressive so should feel softer over small bumps.

Catalunya Red ,Heated rear window,Power steering,Wireless (with FM),Seat belts,Servo assisted brakes.Pneumatic tyres. Disc brakes.

Neil.

If Eilbach know what Bilstein know they are a softer spring rate as the oem ones are over sprung.

The B14 are softer on the springs but a big improvement on the damping rates.

Neil.

The.B14 are.a coilover kit (springs/dampers) without the adjustable damping like the B16 mate.
