How would I know about the timing rattle, is it a cold start thing? Would I be best sorting a warranty of my own

Usually hot engine left for a few hours then it’ll happen at start up around 2000rpm.
You’ll clearly hear it.

@0120raptor had it on his Daytona MK1. Audi replaced the chains / guides / cam variators, basically the lot, there’s a line of thought that the cam variators are the culprit because they work off oil pressure.

Ahh ok well I wouldn’t be able to see that on a viewing, I’m going to give them a call tomorrow and discuss warranty and such, do they need the timing chains changing at a point in their life like at 60k miles

No as they are a lifetime part so Audi claim...... early 3.2 TT owners wouldn’t agree though

Very much a lottery, unless you are lucky enough to hear the noise.

Don’t let it put you off though, but be aware of it is all I can say.

Just gave them a call and it only comes with 6 month warranty but it does cover engine and gearbox, it’s recently had it’s major service been serviced through Audi all it’s life and they have recently had it dyno’ed it produced standard figures and is showing that it’s all healthy. So going to take the trip down Saturday to have a look

I’m in newton Le willows in the north west in between Liverpool and Manchester car is in Aylesbury here is a link for it https://rover.ebay.c...tm/292410176203

The only thing that would concern me at first glance is the four previous owners (in less than 6 years). Be interesting to look at the log book to see the length of time of each ownership. May have a perfectly innocent explanation of course, but this surely can't be normal for an RS3?

I thought this too, but I’m willing to go and have a look, will it show on the log book how long they have owned it for or does it just say the previous owner?

My car had 3 previous owners before I bought it when it was only a year and half old. I didn’t even check the log book when I viewed the car etc. Totally slipped my mind but nevertheless it was a fine buy

Yes that can be normal for this type off car as people buy them & then find out the high running costs like petrol & then trade up for an oil burner.

E46 M3 were a prime example !

Some of these sort of Cars often have 2 or 3 owners in the 1st 12 Months nothing wrong with them just may have been purchased by the Speculator 1st then the second owner Person with too much money probably paid above list to jump the queue never keeps Cars long before they want the next newest Model so 6-12 Mths later it's got it's 3rd owner in less than 1 Year not sure how you check length of time first 3 Owners kept the Car V5 will probably only tell you length of time last owner had the Vehicle (I think)

Btw: Welcome to the Forum and hopefully the enjoyment of RS3 ownership Tom.

The 3.2 TT we used to have had quite a few owners (4+ i think) however the mileage/service history/ condition was why i bought it and the fact it was a 10 year old car.....

Again i think it was a case of people buying it then either getting fed up of putting fuel in it or the running costs associated with it.

However i did some research so went into it knowing i could be spending some cash on it, which i did, but that's older 3.2 V6 TT's for you.

My 8p had 2 owners before me ,

the second owner had it for 3 weeks before selling it back to the garage as it was TOO FAST !

So sometimes number of owners doesnt mean a bad thing

Good luck mate

Not sure if he was on here, but didn't that car belong to Nathan, the detailer/wax guy? He posted that pic of him polishing it with his Mrs wedding dress on their wedding day. Pretty sure it used to be modified when he owned it?

That is always going to be the risk unless you can find the full history from each owner not sure how 3rd party warranties work if a remap from a previous owner was detected only Safe Car is probably an Audi Dealership who are suppose to check the ECU before putting it up for sale but finding a used 8P in the main dealer network now will be harder that looking for rocking horse S)*t
