Hi MrAudi,
So you say the problem lies in the road? I've driven the most smooth road you can think of, but the vibration is still there. What I don't understand is that the vibration sometimes is gone for a whole trip, but then suddenly appears. The local Audi dealer thought it maybe was the gearbox, so they've changed the megatronic (on advise Audi headquarters), but with no luck.
Tried:
- Balancing wheels
- Megatronic replace
- Brake update
Possible solutions gathered from others (haven't tried this):
- Tyres:
- Swap 225 to the front.
- Other brands than the stock continentals? Which size or brand should I try?
- Brakes:
- Install third party brakes.
I have Goodyears on the front and the problem is still there. So that's not the solution. Mr Audi, sounds like dealer BS to me. Spoke with Viv at customer services and she's now telling me that this isn't an isolated case.
HELLO! STEERING?
You're telling whoever you are serious with: "The local Audi dealer thought it maybe was the gearbox, so they've changed the megatronic (on advise Audi headquarters), but with no luck."
Steering, gearbox, maybe it's the shopping in the boot.
Does it change day to day, maybe having the wipers on, even?
If I were your dealer I'd be still laughing the day after and the day after that

Huh? Why are you editing my text as reply?
I'm just saying the things that the dealer have tried with contacting Audi. They said it could be the megatronic, so under warranty I had this replaced by them.
Just been reading about some problems with front upper or lower control arms on some Audis in the past. Clutching at short straws here I know... I'm assuming this hasn't been mentioned as a possible problem by any dealer.

It appears to be a suspension problem as when I put my winter wheels and tyres on there is still a slight wobble through the front around 80 and all the wheels are straight / true and balanced correctly. IIRC when my car was in for alignment at Revolution they could not adjust the toe / camber at the front and suggested that what it was out but could only be resolved with an anti lifting kit which may solve the slight vibration. If Chris is reading, do you get this vibration on the Bilsteins?
Its the Caster that cannot be adjusted.
I also have this problem. The dealer tried a couple of things, but with no luck. The car is fitted with the new brake update.
Weird. So I guess putting 225s to the front is the solution? So the 235s on the back?
Do you all have this problem continiously? Or... Because sometimes I don't get the vibrations and the other day a couple of times driving a straight fine road with approx. 100 km/u. I think when the car is slowing down the vibration occurs.

Well I checked my vehicle in my own workshop today (on advise from Audi), My NSF wheel has a noticeable buckle in it (no damage), and the other three all seem to have tiny bit of distortion........'fit for purpose' springs to mind! Im awaiting Viv at Audi to come back to me.
A £45k car, that in 7000 miles has had new front brakes, a new props haft, front brakes stripped and rebuilt, twice, and and an ongoing vibration at 75mph!!! Not really on, is it?
The trouble is, both my wife and I absolutely love the car, its the best all-round car we've owned (and we've had a few), so want to get it cured rather than sell (not that I can with the current issue). And we've looked but nothing ticks the boxes.....
Come on Audi please lets get this sorted

Im presently waiting on a response from Audi Uk. Apparently warranty on wheels is only 6 months /6250 miles. Which is lucky as I reported this issue within these timescales.

I have been talking about this issue on the italian/swiss RS3OC forum and strangely no one has experienced it or even heard about it.
Could it be something to do with right hand drive cars???
My steer is at the left side. Okay so custom replica wheel could cause extra problems. At the moment I didn't got the vibration for almost a whole week!

Thats interesting to know. Thanks Vito. Are the roads a lot smoother in italy and Switzerland generally? Keen to know if other countries are finding any problems?
I wouldn't say that in Italy extra urban roads or motorways are any different then here in the UK, but if you venture in urban areas believe me here we are lucky, miles better off, it would be a total nightmare driving a car on low profile tyres over there.
Just a quick update to this thread. After a nearly a month in the garage it seems like my problem has been resolved. The car was balanced at Bentley but this didn't fix the problem. So on request from Audi Germany they replaced all four wheels and tyres, balanced them at Bentley again. Just been out for hour or so along some dual carriageways and the wobble has gone. Can only assume there must be damage to one or more of the alloys which was not visible to the eye. Just going to have to watch those potholes!
After being in the A4 TDI for a month then getting back into mine brought instant smiles. Happy days!!!!

Going to mention this when mines in for a service, along with the front end knocking which goes away when braking... strange!
I'm hoping its the crappy continentals making noise as they are about ready for a change.

Hi Danny,
Thats great. But they replaced all four wheels and tyres? Then the next question is.. is this under warranty from Audi or did you pay for this?
If this is the solution, then I'am sure Audi will not pay for this, cause its the same wear as brakes, tyres, bougies etc.

Rhyan

Hi Rhyan, all four alloys and tyres were changed under warranty. I have logged this issue since I bought the car. So there is a record since approx 1000 miles. I did lose my brand new goodyears on the front
