I spoke with Audi UK again today about this issue, I have a case open already.  I think if you have this problem you should notify Audi.

I am going to get the vehicle independently inspected in my own workshop to see what we can find, and report back to them.  I suspect none of my wheels are distorted......

If your wheels are distorted then it appears Audi have made a batch of faulty wheels.

Seems to affect many cars.

Didn't get time to call viv today but hopefully tomorow I will address the issues.
However I did 20 miles on motorway this morning to work driving at a steady 80mph,the vibrations were on and off,it's a slight wobble around 80/90 mph.
It just feel that it's got something to do with tyres.Hopefully Viv can explain if it's mechanical or it is tyres or the brakes have a part to play in it aswell.

As far as I know mine is the only car in with Audi for this problem at present. Didn't get any feedback today. The local dealer is waiting for Audi Uk to come back to them. I'm concerned there is a serious problem and they don't have a solution yet. I don't see how putting 225s on the front is the solution. They have 235s on the front for a reason. Log it with Viv. I;m pretty sure she won't have an answer as she is waiting on my resolution. Please keep us posted if you have any developments on this though. We all need to get it logged with Audi UK. This is why this site is so useful. Without it I wouldn't of known about the brakes and now this!

I also have this problem. The dealer tried a couple of things, but with no luck. The car is fitted with the new brake update.

Weird. So I guess putting 225s to the front is the solution? So the 235s on the back?

Do you all have this problem continiously? Or... Because sometimes I don't get the vibrations and the other day a couple of times driving a straight fine road with approx. 100 km/u. I think when the car is slowing down the vibration occurs.

Ive had new brakes and new tyres. Still there. Get it logged with Audi.

With 235s on the back and 225s on the front. It doesn't feel right. This isn't the solution.

It appears to be a suspension problem as when I put my winter wheels and tyres on there is still a slight wobble through the front around 80 and all the wheels are straight / true and balanced correctly. IIRC when my car was in for alignment at Revolution they could not adjust the toe / camber at the front and suggested that what it was out but could only be resolved with an anti lifting kit which may solve the slight vibration. If Chris is reading, do you get this vibration on the Bilsteins?

Hi Danny.  My car is stock but it still has 3700 miles on the clock and (touch wood) have not experienced any wobble at that speed.  In all fairness I do alot of city driving as well.  However when I do reach that speed bracket you are mentioning I do not note vibrations...  mine is of the later 2012 Versions.

MIne has stock suspension. 2012 model.

Just a quick update. Audi UK have got in touch with my local dealer. They have requested the car be sent to Bentley in Pulborough.  They want it balanced there then the report sent to them. At least the ball is rolling.

***UPDATE***  (at least with mine)

mine has just come out of the dealer this afternoon from having the brake kit, arch lining & haldex update, i also asked them to look @ the vibration which THEY CLAIM ( i have not tested it myself ) to have stopped the vibration by correcting the pressures and my 2 front wheels are very slightly buckled, from normal road use i.e pot holes etc, but have balanced it out

they also say its a downside of having such big wheels & such low profile tyres as the front of the rim is supported by the spokes but the inside rim of the wheel has no support to keep it truly round.

he also said they would't have this problem in Germany as the roads are very well maintained there

So in effect a design flaw with the rotors?

well no the wheels will be the same around the world weather they be on a RS3 a standard A1 or whatever the problem is the British roads & with our tyres being so low profile the side walls are solid so do not have any cushioning effect to absorb the bumps like a 60 profile would.

Hi MrAudi,

So you say the problem lies in the road? I've driven the most smooth road you can think of, but the vibration is still there. What I don't understand is that the vibration sometimes is gone for a whole trip, but then suddenly appears. The local Audi dealer thought it maybe was the gearbox, so they've changed the megatronic (on advise Audi headquarters), but with no luck.

Tried:

  • Balancing wheels
  • Megatronic replace
  • Brake update

Possible solutions gathered from others (haven't tried this):

  • Tyres:
  • Swap 225 to the front.
  • Other brands than the stock continentals? Which size or brand should I try?

  • Brakes:
  • Install third party brakes.
