450 BHP menu
#1

in the interim, I'd probly like to do a 'midlife' upgrade, so need to start to think about saving pennies and have a cost/performance target in mind. The plan being to drive the car in - and drive the car out with all mods fitted a true one stop shop.
For those of you that have undertaken various mods, i'd really appreciate a menu of what to get, where to get it and an estimate of cost:
The target is 450bhp
happy to consider:
engine mods (inc Turbo)
ECU mods (Steg 2?)
Turbo mods (tt450?)
Intercooler upgrade
suspension lowering/coilovers/springs/ARB
new wheels
any thoughts?
Thanks Woody

450hp is a simple drive in drive out stage 2 from Litchfield Motors, using the secondary decats and FMIC. £2.3k all in.
I've found a cheap place to get H&R spings for £150 delivered. They arrive soon so will report back. I was going to go for the MSS kits but at near £1000 for springs i though a punt at £150 was worth it first.
Rear ARB is an option, H&R do a front and rear kit available for about £350 delivered, but only really need the rear.

Panel filter, Hi-flow turbo elbow, ,primary + secondary decat and a trip to mrc will see 450hp (if you have a good stock engine)
I have the exact same and saw 458hp / 650nm
If you go HPFP as well, you will get 750nm.
There is no point blowing money on tte500 at that point, just say for 625 and go forged engine.
EDIT: And wagner FMIC

Interesting Peazz., so no FMIC?. What are your thoughts on what could be possible with Sports primary Cat, but having the 2nd decat.
Does the HPFP increase torque only at the top end or all rpms?

For people who chase power then yes but all depends on the individual and what they want from the carIf an ecu upgrade and FMIC can take you to 400-420bhp, is the extra outlay and stress on the components worth the other 30-50bhp?

Am considering stage 2 myself but that means another £1,000 + fitting on a down pipe with sports cats and possible an up rated hpfp which is around £800 iirc? It's another jump from an already large jump from stock but the outlay and worry over lack of warranty on the components is holding me back.

Spending around £1,500-2,000 on a map and fmic to get 400-420bhp seems reasonable to me.

Going by the website and Shaunee's thread Litchfield got 450+ without exhaust mods apart from 2nd Decats. Nor are any Forge elbow's mentioned etc. £2300 all in, inc decats and FMIC. If you already have the latter two, then its just mapping at £600.
MRC have a great rep, but as I've said before their dyno's on non turbo upgrade cars just don't look compelling.
For me the desire is for the steepest possible curve over stock. Totally not fussed if the peak number ends at 420\30\50 or 500hp, thats just a by product for me.
I hear Revo are about to bring a Stage 2 out for the RS3 8v, but currently my options are APR Stage 1 with decats and FMIC, or make the trip to Litchfield for their stage 2 like Shaunee and D19LB.

I've um'd and ah'd about modification, and about whetehr to keep the car long term. SWMBO has a Q5 which will get changed in a couple of years, and this will probaly mean I keep the RS3 from 5-6 years.

Nope. It's still sat in the study, and I have no plans to put it back on. I contacted DTUK asking where I should send it back, but tey said it should have thrown ECU fault codes (which it didn't), and I should callto discuss. I tried to ring a couple of times, but coupldn't get through, and so the DTUK box drifted into the can't be bothered area of the study!Sounds like you are really enjoying the RS Woodstock.....

As the guys have mentioned, it seems with the secondary decats, FMIC and custom/stage 2 map, 450hp is perfectly achieveable.
The FMIC is a bit of a pain, but definitely worth it for stage 2 given the evidence of heat soak.

On the intercooler subject - has anyone been through all the interccolers for the 8V RS3 and listed the capacity vs cost..? Or is this a job for me tonight...
I see Airtec intercoolers on ebay, but nothing on their main website - what is this all about?. I know there was a lot of talk of them producing one, but they always had a reason why it was late.

Capacities don't mean a fat lot, unless all the cores are equal..... which they are not.
I've said it a gazillion times over the years..... it is, imo, all about the quality of the core (versus cost).
