I'm still patiently waiting for all the Stage 3 stuff to turn up.

Very minor update (yes... still awaiting the Stage 3 bits to arrive!):

As I'm still not at Stage 3 yet and the 2017 Drag Strip event calendar has started, I want to get back down the strip to see if I can improve on the last outing in 2016.

Previously I suffered with grip on launch since moving to Stage 2, so this was always a concern for me moving forward.

Late last year I had the dogbone mount fitted which is meant to help reduce axle tramp, so I wanted to see (with the drier weather now) whether this has indeed helped.

Having recently completed 5 standing start launches, they all achieved 3.3s to 60mph effortlessly. Same map, same stock tyres..... now with the dogbone mount.

Whilst achieving 3.3s (dead once corrected) is pleasing, it's the consistency that means more to me. The best 60ft was a 1.79s which is so much better than it was before which was around 1.97s.

I hope all of this will be repeated once I get back down the strip..... fingers crossed that will be next weekend.

Not bad for an A3 hatchback! :D. Mine has been fettled by MRC earlier this week and will be interesting to see the difference in times over stock at SP in few months.

I have also now fitted the 'dogbone' insert and can confirm that it does actually seem to make a difference to the feel of the gear changes, and I also think it has made the car fell a little more repsonsive when changing direction (maybe from the weight of the gearbox and engine not being able to move around so freely?).

A nice little cheap mod.

Car was good before but is now much more 'on it'! Heading back there for a few additional bits next month and some more map tweaking.

Also had the the dsg map with two stage launch - sound is really nice too! Wasn't too sure if I was going to have it done but glad I did.

Brakes need sorting now. Planning to fit the Alcon 380mm discs with some EBC Redstuff pads. Also looking for a decent rear ARB too.

You have any plans for brake upgrades after going to stage 3?

Its a small aluminium milled billet that fits into the rubber void in the bush which mounts the rear of the gearbox to the car. It just slides in and uses the original bolt to secure it in place.

Its designed to stop the excessive movement of the engine/gearbox when under load/changing gears which is supposed to allow for more precise changes.

For me, as well as the gear shifting it also seems to steady the car a little better (improved turn in), maybe because the movement from the weight of the gearbox and engine shifting about is more restricted.

Be aware, this is not one of those' night & day' changes but just something which maybe adds a small benefit to how the car feels when pushing on. Its only £47 quid and is easy to fit so I thought I would try it.

Nice one.

I have no plans to change the brakes just because of Stage 3.  The OEM brakes work 100% fine for me and road use.  If I get problems with them I will certainly look to a full AP setup for the front (discs and calipers).

Yes... still on the Pirellis.  It still spins up, but I don't experience any axle tramp now....... or I didn't on these runs.  Not sure if this will carry forward to the drag strip though.

Info on the dogbone is a few pages back.

Have to confess that my brakes have been ok during the colder winter months (apart from the damn squealing) but I know come the warmer summer days that the heat build up causes problems with brake fade when using the performance.I have EBC Redstuuf on order and will give them a try as some forum members have had good experiences  with them. Probabably still going to fit the nice Alcon discs though.

i did a 0-60 in 3.6 secs with axle tramping in 1st 2 gearchanges,i'm not convinced the Pirellis are able to cope with the extra power? I had the same senario with my S5 which was on Dunlops, when i put on MPSS the difference was incredible in wet, damp and dry conditions! I am going to try a few launches on a completely dry day with warmer temps and if it still does it i'm putting some Michellin 4s on. Just ordered the dog mount upgrade also

The dog bone insert is cheap. The real question is how does it affect the daily ride? No one is getting weird sounds or new vibration feelings?

Nope, no vibration, no knocking or any weird sounds or noises. I think Shaun reported some small vibration on idle bit that's pretty much it. Its an easy DIY fit and if for some reason you dont like it, then its easily removed and you can Ebay it!

Thanks! So, is there no vibration on idle? Or is there?

Certainly none that I notice on my car. I imagine that as long as the insert is centred properly in the rubber void bush and then tightened up correctly (ie; not overtightening it so much that the insert moves to one side) then it should be fine. There were reports of vibration issues with the earlier versions of the dogbone on some cars but 034motorsport have modified them since then (chamfered the leading edges a bit more or something).

Worth a go and see what you think, as I said in my earlier post, the differences are only small/subtle so dont expect a huge noticable change.
