Yep, sounds like an outstanding little mod judging by your RR day TX.

When I queried about the MTM kit with its advertised increase to 415HP, was this projected increase from Audi published stock of 362HP or would the MTM increase be based on the output of the car, ie if your car should produce 390HP, would tbe MTM kit then take that to 443HP? Suffice to say the response wasn't certain!!! I'll know soon enough!

It will 110% be around 415-420.

All remaps are finding there way around these figures. I'm watching the rolling road thread you are doing - also interesting to find out that the MTM wasn't discovered upon a scan!

What did you say to them? and who are you insured with?? I can't believe they insure an illegal mod

I honestly don't expect any different with the dyno result! But we'll find out in 2 weeks 👍

But remember, as VAG are trying to detect tuning boxes, it may not stay this way for long!!!!! If it did flag as suspected tuning TD1 whatever on that scan, no doubt i would be looking at a decent flash map and intercooler done by now 😁, but happy with how the car feels and performs with the 'box' for now, off the line etc and stuff....

illegal? i just told them what it is but guy didn't really understand to well but i made sure he specifically wrote secondary decat pipe.

i didn't get it fitted in end everywhere was busy but now your giving me second thoughts, might just buy a miltek non res cat back to keep it legal.

so no one else with a secondary decat are telling there insurances?

I told my insurer, they had no issue.
Saying they are illegal is perhaps making it sound more serious than it is - generally speaking the secondary cats are there to keep the missions in check in cold environments during cold starts, until the primary cats have reached temp.
Having said that, even during an emissions test, unless you've just started the engine cold for the first time in weeks on a sub zero day, it'll most likely still pass the test.
Having said that, you will likely fail an MOT as the car is meant to have to original number of catalytic converters by law. Worst case scenario though is you put the originals back on and retest.

You will notice on the milltek decat they have 'not for road use' printed on them for exactly these reasons

You aren't legally allowed to remove a cat - we know MOT's are there and they are legally enforceable. Doing anything intentionally to a car so that it fails an MOT isn't legal for road use, but yet a car insurer is expected to cover it? I don't get it!

If you've told your insurer and they are fine, then no problem!

Ok so I've been looking at this mod as I'm totally addicted to the noise and I'd like more of it. Is it still reasonably quiet when in comfort as I've had previous issues with the local "public servants" so would like the option to remain a bit more discreet when in town.

Also can I just ask why anyone is even considering the MOT issue at present? Brand new cars have 3 years to play with so why care now?

We're not really considering MOT's - just pointing out that that's realistically the only time you may have an issue  :)

The car is still fairly quiet in 'comfort' settings until you hit ~4k rpm, then it starts to sing regardless.
I would say it is definitely louder in comfort than before, but not any worse than most 'normal' cars.

Ok understood, I guess I picked it up wrong.

As long as I can have it at a reasonably acceptable volume when required this info will do me, for the price and proven results in power increase (and extra crackles) I'd say it certainly appears to be a worthwhile mod. I shall get these ordered immediately :)

Hmm, switched to Milltek decat today and the sound changed a little bit as said befor but not so much as I thought. The biggest change is that spool up time is noticeably faster. I have the earlier switch mod with open exhaust flaps all the time. I don´t know if you agree but that´s my feeling about it and I am a little suprised. Backpressure should drop so that´s probably the reason.

Those who have decat'd can we have a quick show of hands as to which product you used? Always Miltek?
