My car does this stock without the red proximity warning staying on... or am I missing something

That's correct if you have the adaptive cruise

If yours does it stock, I assume you have the adaptive cruise control.

Yes it's standard on Adaptive... no idea why ?

I just wanted to see if the cluster would do it and it did :D  :D

You have adaptive cruise control then. This mod is for the people that don't have ACC.

Edit: oops i didn't realise there was another page that had the question answered already.

I'm keen to try out adaptive cruise control, is it as cool as I imagine it to be? Set speed, car slows and speeds up with traffic and then clear? All the way to zero mph? What distance does it start slowing down from? Will it emergency brake if the car in front also does the same?

I just remembered that i'm absent minded, wait, i mean i lost my mind i can't find it.

On the RS6 you can adjust the distance between you and the car in front. By default it leaves too much of a gap for me but you can decrease that. And if the car brakes heavy then it will do its best to stop you hitting it. Its not infallible though, if a car changes Lane into your lane and going a lot slower it might not have enough time to react. I've had the brakes come on heavy when following another car that suddenly braked, and I don't even think I had the ACC on at the time.

It should really be variable with speed. Like in a traffic jam on the motorway you can set it on and relax whilst moving with the traffic. That's how I visualize it anyway

Yeh it is variable, at stationary and crawl speeds it's much closer than when driving at speed

It's not so much of a distance it's a 2 sec gap, going up to 8 second gap, been using it on my mk7 golf r all the time and only ever failed once, but it warned me it had failed, think the radar was very dirty

Ps you can change the default in car setup no need for vcds, you can select any of the distances or have it set to remember last

Sorry I was using my golf r as the example, with the distance select on the RS3 its on the top of the cruise stalk so it will always remember the distance

I'll do some digging with the default values, I'm sure it must be possible to code it so that it sit at the nearest (none stone chip friendly position). :-)

Just been doing some digging in my car with vcds found it:

Set ACC default distance setting adjustment in MMI
[13] Auto distance regulation

Security Code: 14117
Adaptation: Option For Presetting of time gap
Change not active to active
Then Save
Reboot your MMI (Menu + Push Touch Knob + Top Right Corner Button)

On mmi goto Car > Driver assist > ACC > Set distance boom done

Good find - I'll be doing that coding mod, as always find myself switching it to 1 second - must say it's a great option to have as I negotiate the m25 frequently on my commute and great in stop start traffic!

I do a stint on the m3 -and with the 50mph limit I'm regularly averaging 38mpg on a 119mile round trip from home to Basingstoke - the more I drive this car the more and more I'm pleased with it.

Need to check if they've added engine control support

I'm sure there was coding somewhere to adjust the brightness of the LED headlights, I'll dig it out
