How does decatting work? What do they do and can it be undone when i give the car back?

Its literally 2 pipes that replace the current cats at the back. Great first mod. Makes loads of noise, that's what they do. When you sell the car just put the original pipes back on.

No sensors Steve after the secondary cats, so the car doesn't know if they are fitted or not. :D

Eventually you might not want to bother with an Audi MOT though.
While it will pass on emissions all days long, if counted, ( read as... they know how many cats should be there) then Audi would fail it.
Just choose an non MOT tester that doesn't know any different.

If you gut the primary cat too, it's a different matter, it will throw a fault code, ( stage 2 can remap thus out) and will fail emissions,

thanks Paul,i already have the sports exhaust so is this worth doing do you think? Don't wanna add any unwanted extra noise! (I bet you never thought you would hear me say that lol)

I Had the decats on the mk 1 and they did improve it

On the MK2 with sports exhaust......doubt I'll be bothering, it's plenty loud enough for me.

If you don't want the extra noise, then I wouldn't bother, as that's mostly the point in doing them.

You might free up an extra 8-10 bhp without them, but they are not that restrictive , you can easily see through the honeycomb.

I have the MK1, so didn't have a optional sports exhaust option from factory.

Of course there is some restriction, not just sound and you can even hear it clearly that turbo spooles up much faster, had it mounted before Milltek catback so yes tryed it myself. Maybe remount them later, will see?

Every time I have deleted cats in previous cars I have suffered the inability to stand behind the car while running because of the awful smell. What will it be like with this mod?

One of my first mods was removing the second cats with the Milltek pipes, you won't regret doing this, I live in a quiet close and when returning late just put it into comfort.
I now have the Milltek down pipe with sports cat which makes the decat pipes redundant, even better breathing, and yes loud when you put your foot down, but still sounds like a 1.4 when crawling home,

Yes, going to keep the Audi sports cat back, the only other mod to the exhaust that I want to do is the MTM valve remote.
I've had fast cars all my life, but none of them have put that stupid grin on my face like this does, and I'm in my 50's

My car has the Audi sports exhaust and I live in a close with houses facing out on to the turning area.

I was in Halfords before Xmas and happened to come across my opposite neighbours in the store. A conversation started with the guy when he asked about what I use to clean my car, and then his wife came over with the baby. She came up to me with a very serious look on her face and asked if I knew where the ear defenders were for small children.

I unwittingly commented 'oh, are you going to a race' (thinking she wanted ear protection for the kid) and she replied...... No! Its so that my child won't wake up every time you start that bloody car up! :( :( :(

Was considering the secondary decats ........... not too sure now!

now driving a 'Daytona Lite' FL car.

A good friend of mine has a little fiat arbarth on stage 3, now that is an alarm clock, you hear him before you see him.
I don't use my rs as a daily drive, maybe that's why some of my neighbours still let on?

It's a shame none of you live nearer, the Milltek decat pipes are bubble wrapped above my garage, kind of try before you buy.

I just removed my miltek secondary decat pipes.
Overall the decats are louder across the range but the low rpm pops n crackles are a little muted.
The deeper/bassy tone of the oem sports exhaust is more high pitched with the decats. I prefer the deeper tone hence went back to stock.
Someone mentioned the turbo spool.. I can hear the turbo spool just as much with the oem exhaust.

What I would like to try is disable the exhaust flaps. Unfortunately the obdeleven mod for the exhaust doesn't work any longer nor is the long coding working.
