As the title I've been looking into upgrading my rear anti roll bar.
I've read plenty about the 034 Motorsport bar and also read of bushes wearing out prematurely.

On my last S3 I had H&R roll bars and found the rear one especially made a huge difference.
The H&R bar is 26mm though compared to the 034 bar at 22.5mm, I can buy a H&R rear bar from Germany for about £170 delivered and wondered if anyone has any opinion or experience on fitting one of these to the RS3?

Fitting will be no different regardless of the make of ARB. I fitted an 034 one in less than an hour with the car raised on wheel ramps at the back. As it is a direct replacement of the stock one its just a case of remove the old and replace with the new. The only thing to watch is how long the bolts are for the replacement bush clamps. The bolts supplied with the 034 bar are too short and need longer ones to go right through the retaining nuts in the chassis. I haven't seen an H&R setup to know if they have the same problem.

Superpro front control arms, Powerflex Gearbox & Dogbone mount inserts, 034 Motorsport Rear ARB, 034 Motorsport Front & Rear Drop Links. Reyland 370mm front brake rotors.

I've always been impressed with H&R products, their roll bars never squeak or groan and no need to grease etc.
I thought someone on here may have fitted one before I ordered one.

I have got the h&r front and rear bars on my car. They are a perfect fit and the change in the car is unreal. Highly recommend them!!

I've ordered the rear H&R bar from Germany.
Slightly cheaper than the 034 bar and as you say H&R are excellent.

What about the bolt length issue?

I've ordered the longer bolts for the £2 they cost but H&R usually use originals.
I'll let you know once fitted.

Can this really make a massive difference to a chassis which is already well balanced? or this is for track use??

I'm going by the difference it made on my S3, even everyday use the difference was very noticeable.
I find my RS3 unsettles fairly easy at the rear.

are you running 235's all round or 225? I can imagine it would definitely improve handling but surely to notice the roll bars you would need to be doing 60+ mph on bends.... as standard chassis is more than capable?

Running 225s on the rear but yeah I regularly see over 60 on bends.
Working shifts so on the road early hours but good quick roads.
I wouldn't say I drive that quick but do bend the rules slightly on motorway etc.
The corners I notice it on are a 70mph dual carriageway with 2 bends and although the car goes round them I'd just like it to go round them with more confidence.

An upgraded rear bar is one of the best mods I find you can do for the handling of a FWD biased car with tendancy to understeer at the limits (like our beloved RS3's) but you can go too far with them at the expense of rear end grip.

034 designed their bar to work well in conjunction with the standard front bar and In my opinion 26mm rear is too big when fitted on it's own, even my 24mm whiteline on the stiff setting was just a tad too much in the damp, the H&R you may find just makes the rear a bit too twitchy and likely to step out, better keep your eyes on the ball Kev  :o

Thanks for your input mate.
The H&R rear bar for RS3 is 22mm
The S3 one was 26mm and to be honest transformed the handling, I ran the rear for a week or so before fitting the front, the front made very little difference.
Did you sell your Speedbuster mate?

My H&R roll bar turned up yesterday
If the weathers ok tomorrow I think I'll fit it before I go to work.

Can anyone explain what the purpose of upgrading this is? My car has the option 255 up fron and the 225 on the rear, I see very little under steer anyhow but I am interested in what advantages upgrading will give me?

I've always wondered if this was worthwhile on a road car........

Same goes for the white line anti-lift kit.

Although the video of the Golf with the white line kit on is quite interesting to watch.

I fitted the anti lift kit to my last S3 and apart from giving the steering a nice weighty feel, it made hardly any (no) difference.

I have the 034 bar. On the stiff setting it definitely improves under steer/ handling. My tyres are due for change so sounds like 255s on the front are a good idea if you little under steer.
