No it doesn't at all......but is there any harm having fun experimenting with ideas on a car costing £1.50
Ok help me out.....imagine your car your choice your ideas....oh and my money to paint it lol. What would you do with it, how would you do it ? I am interested

It is all about personal preference, which is what makes the debate so interesting as there is no definitive answer. My personal preference tends toward the 'low key and understated', as evidenced by my car being debadged.

If I recall correctly you are widening the arches - front and rear? - which will enable you to run larger diameter/wider wheels and tyres. This being so I would fit the largest, widest wheel/tyre combination compatible with a full sports suspension and go for a subtle graphite/grey paint finish, possibly with silver/aluminium touches on the front and rear spoilers to match the wheels.

Sometimes less is more, the stance and performance alone will make it truly unique     :)

The initial pics I posted were to experiment with a few greys and charcoals the orange to speculate with a more aggressive look ( bit copied off the MTM car to be honest...I liked the darker graphite or charcoal ideas but they appeared to hit a wall of discontent
The idea of colour on the arches is to see if it makes the car look wider and shows them off....the kit providers car in white on their website doesn't jump out at you and the arches look a bit lost to me.....poss because it's all white, I don't know
Have a look, Google "DD customs RS3"

Although 21x10.5 wheels may work I may have to stick at 20s for geometric reasons...A lot of this is on the initial thread I started as a newbie on here
The TT and TTRS drive, axles, hubs and steering being used along with RS3 wheel bearings are also giving 30mm extra track per corner and will Lowe the cars centre of gravity somewhat so it should sit pretty well
KW suspension is being fitted which will be fully adjustable from inside the car as will the Haldex And the boost settings

Thanks for the input and suggestions appreciated....A lot of what I have done or changed to date has come from ideas and from people off here

For me it would have to be 1 solid colour for sure. With as much extra clear coat as possible to make it shinier than moon!
I'd be looking at Nardo Grey or another grey colour but with the callipers and other little touches done in a really bright colour, like the lambo Orange. Maybe then take the Orange next level by doing the interior leather in Orange with grey stitching, shiny grey seat backs, inlays in the grey etc.

I'll have to look up the Nardo but unfortunately the interior is already underway...heaps of dark grey with the orange stitch but with me being me there's the blue again....there will not be anything inside un stitched or un dipped
Seat mock up pic below
Seat blue bucket inserts orange rest of seat charcoalish...back of seats either blue or orange RS3 logo will be embroidered in
Nice one.....yeh the little touches will be in the orange, not what you seen on the pics, more subtle hopefully. I'm considering all comments and trying hold back my "let's put it out there" personality

I will add my twopennyworth to the debate... after a few glasses of red (defence...:-))

Dons flame suit ..

I would definitely go for subtle over brash for the RS3 - the lines of the car are (imho) better suited to muted shades rather than bright. I would be thinking of a black / grey base with a subtle metal flake on top of silver with perhaps some gold ...

Love the wheels you posted earlier and would have those with the body colour at the tips...

I wonder what Chip Foose would come up with ?

I keep thinking of chip.....I'd love to be able to sketch like him....don't get me on custom hot rod paint jobs I'll be burnt alive in the damn car by the forum if I go down that route......gold and silver metal flake...oh my lord !!
Original Intention was for a Motorsport track look but done in high gloss or rich matte finish with some loud detailing I'm now tHinkig of all options
Yeh the wheels are great aren't they...if anyone wants a change but still look OE then they the ones most definately

Personally I would disregard the '.....wall of discontent.....' - after all, it is you who will be the one spending most time looking at and driving the car. Go with your desires and feelings, if nothing else this thread has shown that you could canvass a hundred people and get a hundred and one opinions.

Whatever you decide, I would love to see the finished car in the metal   :)

Just Googled the 'Dd customs RS3' Pat. I love how that car looks just as it is - why not go for Suzuka grey with black wheels, possibly Audi rotor wheels from an Rs6 or R8 with the rim and accents in Suzuka? I reckon that would look just sensational, and very definitely unique

Haaaaaa guess what colour the car is at present ?......yes you guessed it Suzuka grey !!

The bodykit is proving a nightmare, not to basically fit, but to get to a high standard of appearance and detailed fitment.....it's certainly testing the patience and experience of the fitter as he knows it's his name and reputation that's on the line with it....and the whole build really.

The main heart of the project that started it all off (the engine) hasn't even been touched yet....that will be fun too getting rid of all the heat and it not going bang....Think we are good now on the drive train strength with the strongest there is out there....

My main concern will be not scraping scratching or worse crashing it.....it won't be the money invested that's the biggest concern but the time and effort input... and the time to put it right

Every time someone mentions Chip I automatically think of Vito (he owns a chip shop)😄,I'd go for Blue body work with Black/Orange wheels.

Simples then, and keeps the paint cost down  ;)

If I recall correctly, the area around the rear arch/rear door aperture looked as if may prove problematic - does the rear portion of the door need to be profiled to blend into the enlarged arch?

Well spotted you.......There is a small piece of kit that has to be grafted on to the door itself. The trim thar runs along the front and rear door has to be shortened and modified. Andy who's fitting it is toying with making the piece out of steel rather than using the fibreglass part
The original arches have been cut away to allow for the extra track and suspension movement
The blending in is mind boggling to me
The lower sill fitment is problematic and the creased line that runs the length of the car is more rounded on the kits front wings so the will have to be cut back so it's as sharp as standard....I won't dare drive it at this rate !!

Nice one thanks

My GF will love you she wants it to have orange wheels but I want all those erotic calipers to be prominent which is why I want a very open un fussy wheel....I have a caliper fetish lol

Chip shop......surely then Vitos should be HQ for forum meets ??

Have a look, Google "DD customs RS3"

I did and I really like how it looks until I saw the side profile ... somehow it looks great from the 3/4 side views but the side makes it look under-wheeled at the back? Or perhaps the back should sit 10-15mm higher ?

Anyway money no object i would definitely build a wide body RS3 (or get someone else to build as I would be laying on a beach in the caribbean..) And a wide body E90 M3 saloon , and a whole load more DTM looking cars....  :)

BMW M2 in Mineral Grey

Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDi Black Edition

Used to have a Condor Grey RS3 8P, and before that a further 47 assorted money pits

hell yeh nice visit to Necker Island with a few well bought honeys for company and return home to several well modified wonderful cars...
Those seats look proper sick...(that's really nice for our older viewers)
I'm thinking my interior is going to be a tad bland in comparison......more orange matron !!

I can't believe how similar their paintwork ideas are to mine

I've decided on the Porsche Mexico blue for main colour as its similar to the lovely bygone Motorsport blues of old........bugger me I see today the MTM S8 !!! Looks like my ideas and colours may be controversial but they do seem up to dateAttached File  image.jpg   64.02K   23 downloads

Pat, the RS6 front view : how about of bringing the orange down past the lights to the deck (as seen on the £1.50 version) and run along the bottom spoiler as per the alu pack. But in Porsche Mexico Blue. Are we getting anywhere near a Gulf Special yet?

I'd fade / blend the colours for some subtlety too.

Not sure how to approach the side treatment though.

Thanks for that nice one
Yeh it is difficult the more you get into it..yeh I thinks MTM could have done more with the exterior than they have. I think the orange where they have it is their trademark.....until you get to the S8

Yes the Gulf colours are obvious in my idea but have not come about because of that..... It happened somewhat by chance to be honest playing around with blue tones

The side is the most difficult to consider your right on that one mate well spotted !!
