As chief engineer and general manager at a certain Tamworth 3-wheeler factory (they all made a profit) and responsible for 4-wheel sports cars too (they didn't make a profit but were considered a 'sports car') I had a Viper for my Christmas present and I have to tell you that while I had as many 'thumbs up' from pedestrians and other drivers than I've ever seen the car itself was not at all conducive to UK roads; it is a truck!  I've had more fun in a DAF, and at DAF Trucks in Eindhoven too...

Huge engine and torque has the Viper but with a manual shift operating via the right-hand I found it uninspiring.  Stick it in 3rd and you could leave it in 3rd all day and every day.  Standing starts up-hill was/is ok in 3rd....

A bag of buffalo droppings for me, the Viper; totally unexciting, but a Viper nonetheless.

No Pat, believe me, you do not want a Viper...

As ever wise words from the Professer that are duly noted, thanks for that....My project needs some of your no nonsense knowledge....wouldn't it be great if we could download it ?

Er hang on a minute...you had one as a Xmas present ? Bloody hell you must have been a good boy that year ?lol

What was the sports car you were entrusted as chief engineer on ? Was it the Schimiter ? (I may have spelt that wrong)

Back in 2002 (printing money days) I wanted a toy and it was Viper, old Corvette or TVR Tuscan...
I went TVR and loved it.....I did some mods on that and so wish i had never sold it. it's the one car out of many I wish I'd never sold

Yes Pat it was the Scimitar but mainly with the Rover 1.4 and 1.8 K-series motors and me trying to get weight 'out' to replicate the handling/feel of my then Lotus Elan Sprint and Plus 2S 130/5: good days at Reliant with lots of projects for others including TVR.  But from Reliant to Westfield producing technical manuals and evaluating all from Twin-Cam, 2-litre Ford on carbs and/or injection to the V8; the V8 Westfield was as the Viper more 'truck' like but sounded like a Tuscan and took me way back to the original 1965 Griffith.

I like cars that you 'wear' and can 'feel' hence Lotus for 40-years and now the RS3 - and TT roadster and A2 - and I can't see me doing anything more sharabang (as one contributor here well knows...) than these but each to their own...

Down at Paul Matty Sportscars (Bromsgrove) yesterday surrounded by 70's Lotus including single seaters and a Lotus type 30 sportscar (V8) and came away in BLUEY content that I'd left all that behind; been there done that - but still a 45bvtc (1971 Lotus Elan (Lotus type 45) with a Big Valve Twin Cam) person...

From what I believe you will be right on the limit of the internals at that sort of power......and drivetrain..I'm worried about the driveshafts and prop. The uprated prop although double the torque figure of the original still isn't that great

I contacted people on several occasions regarding carbon but no responses at all.....I did mention it ages ago on the thread

Are you going adjustable mappings and haldex or is it "when it's out its flat out" on the power

I'm after a driveable run around, a hot spirited (I love that word) car , and a proper mental case mobile with all the crazy spitting and noise that goes with it.....and all without having components snapping and things going bang

I've set the guy a good challenge !!

Wow.....I knew bits but not that much...You are the Professer
The brakes issues on here make me smile.....you simplify and sort it with an engineering mindset and knowledge....more should listen to the prof lol

Pat, I'm curious did you ever find a part number/ price for the somewhat mythical uprated prop that is often mentioned?

Was there a defined cut off when it would have been fitted or not? Or an easy way to identify one on the car?

Maybe worth asking Josh as his car recently had a new prop shaft at Macclesfield Audi

Somewhere way back on my thread there is the info I discovered from a company client that works at Audi in Stoke...ill try recall it now

The new prop was introduced in late 2013 (after production had stopped) The part number changed but Audi could not tell me whether this was because it was a change in its manufacture (uprated) or whether it was the same but made by another company than the production props......Guy at PSI had found somewhere that the new prop has double the torque limit of the old one

I think figures were around 350 ft/lbs on the std and 700 ft/lbs on the new....so tuning concerns for rear wheel bias still remains

This is only information I've picked up, how valid it all is I don't know

Which begs the question why would they introduce an uprated / modified prop after production had all but ceased ?
Unless they planned a recall / product improvement, then decided against it ? Or to just replace as and when maybe ?

My thoughts exactly, however it is only a theory and I can't validate the information
Without trawling my thread I think I was told September 2013 it changed....The production run was to a limited timescale anyway so I imagine politically it was easier to finish the run on std rather than change it and give legal ammunition to existing owners

I'll need something on mine uprated or one off as the bias will be RWD
