I've not bought any plugs for years as they've always been part of the service I had no idea they were than much.....fully synth oil is the same when you use the recommended !! Especially M3 oil bought by the litre from BMW.....ridiculous
I'm from the generation when there was only Champion plugs available unless you were dead posh then you went NGK....mind you I remember crisps at 5-10p a bag so I guess it's about the same inflation lol

Surely the biggest con is the price Audi charge for oil which is £16.50+Vat per litre! Supplying my own saved me over £70 on 6 litres. so essentially better than half the price and I still have 2 litres left from the 2x4 litre cartons I got

Think my M3 oil is over £23 a litre when you include the the George Osborne charity fund

I remember the horse and cart rag & bone men and the pop wagon....and dare I say it.....old money !!
Makes me smile what was considered additional extras or luxuries in cars since I can remember
Inertia reel seatbelt for one
A suppressed radio was raight posh !
Self cancelling indicators
A Rev counter omg !!

Prob younger members it was things like intermittent wipers and leccy windows etc

What car accessory either sums you up or is most memorable ????
For me it has to be Cibie Super Oscars all day long

Which 5W30 oil did you buy?

Did your dealer mind you supplying the oil?

Shell helix ultra AV-L 5-30 can be bought online around £80 for 8 litres.

This seems to be our local Audi dealers oil of choice.

Mobile 1 ESP seems popular along with Castrol SLX3 which is longlife.

Costco does their special offers sometimes on Castrol Edge 5W/30 (long life version - 504/507) think it's about £29/£30 for 4L.

On a budget/want a bargain?? Then there's always this:

http://www.ebay.co.u...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Well, the blurb says it's long life and meets the requirements of VW 504 00/ 507 00....................

£21.95 for 5L.

Not saying the oil is good or bad, just sharing what i've found when mindlessly surfing the net.

Comline (as a company) is (in my eyes) a pretty large company and a respected name.

Your engine so your choice!!

I was looking the other day at Castrol website and noticed this:

PLEASE NOTE: the oil selector may show that Castrol EDGE is the recommended oil for your vehicle. In many cases you’ll see that Castrol Magnatec is ALSO suitable for your car and driving style. In this scenario EITHER PRODUCT will provide the protection and performance you need.

ASDA have/had Magnatec C3 (VW) Full Synthetic on offer at £20 for 4L.

But here it states it meets VW 502 00/505 00 but doesnt mention 504 00/507 00?

Scroll across for 5W-30.

http://magnatec.cast...e/5w-40-c3.html

I'd have to investigate some more.

My understanding is that if you are on the variable service (i.e NOT time/distance) then "long life" oil must be used and the spec for this is VW 504 00 (petrol engines) / 507 00 (diesel engines).

If you are on the time/distance (fixed?) service schedule then I guess it's the "other spec" (502 00 for petrol & 505 00 for diesel)?? Possibly?? Not 100% sure as I'm on variable schedule.

Of course there is nothing stopping you using the long life spec oil on a fixed schedule, just costing you more money for the oil !

Castrol Edge FST 5W-30 V.A.G. 504.00/507.00 spec bought from Matt Lewis on e-Bay and IIRC £58 inc. postage for 8 L. I advised the dealership I would supply and as I have done this before they don't mind because they know I supply the right type.

BTW for fixed or variable service they use the same oil as above.

Go to TPS, it's like £27 for 5L and is the proper spec Quantum branded oil...

Quantum is blended so whilst the right spec / grade it is a lower quality

Actually they're all blends of base oils and additives.

I don't be sold into the fancy packaging, I have it on good authority that Quantum is a V A G owned brand that is produced by Castrol and bottled in Quantum branded packaging for V A G....          as in it's the same stuff!   :)

I just let Stafford Audi do the service as and when it's due.
Makes me laugh when people spend £100's modifying a car but then harp on about the cost of oil which is basically the most important item in keeping the RS running sweet.

If you think I'm paying £90 from the dealer for the same oil I can pick up from my local TPS for £30 then you're sadly mistaken.

I'll still get them to service the car, but save £60 in the process, for exactly the same service with the same oil as you would get.

Frankly I've better things to be doing with £60 than lining Audi's pockets thanks.

;)
