Hi guys,

one of the mostly done modifications within our forum is an electrical "add-in" to the RS3 to enable the driver to manually control the exhaust flap to be open also ind 2nd and 3rd gear as well as having it open without enabled S-button.

We have a so called "handicraft manual" available explainung in detail the various possible solutions, the technical backgrounds and the "how to's".

Any interest?

I might sit down and translate it then (eventhough is almost 30 pages all-in-all)...

Cheers Hartmut (SwissRS3)

That would be great, I'm sure you already know this but just in case - Google Translate does a good job of quickly translating large documents and websites to save you some time the words need a bit of tidying up for meaning afterwards but it's a good start.

Hey folks,
currently it is only available in German (it has 40 Pages) and I guess it will take me some time translating it.
Maybe it's still some help to you and you give it a try e.g. with Google Translator

Here is the Link for Downlod:

Just pulling the vacum hose as per the old R32 flapper mod will keep the car in 's' for sound.

I like the idea of it being manually switched to stay open.

Does this have any negative performance issues ?  Or is the flapper there purely for sound reduction anyway?

Good morning guys,

it does affect any performance issues, it just opens the exhaust flaps at all times.
I guess at our forum at least 50% of the cars have one of the options installed, personally I installed the manual electric switch in about 25 cars so far.
What is most important to it, is to put the 220Ohms/11Watts resistor parallel to the switch. Omitting the resistor will result in an error in the engine controller that will also show up on the driver information system after a while.
A friend of mine did it this way and after we had later installed the resistor and deleted the error in the engine controller, he said that during the time with the error active, the performance was less.

Just took a quick look at the translation - I had hard time reading my own stuff - the translation is as Bad as can be. I guess there is no way around sitting down and translating it manually.

Go ahead....Over the time I might also translate some of the other self-written construction manuals and provide them...

I did this today, couldn't find a grub screw so got a M5 bolt/screw cut the head off. to make it look un messed with i cut the hose where it sits in the clip above the twin pipes & as the bolt is so tight in the hose it doesn't need any jubilee clips, joined the hose back together flush and put he join in the middle of the clip. now unless you know its there you cant see or notice a join.

now when you press the 'S' button you no longer hear the click........HAVE I DONE THIS CORRECTLY OR IS SOMETHING GOING TO BLOW GOING DOWN THE ROAD???

As long as the tube is plugged and airtight it shouldnt cause any damage at all.

I don't understand this, if you you want the flap open why not just push the S button? Clearly I am missing something here if its a popular modification. Please can you explain?

Thanks

Michelle

Is the annoyance, of having to press the S button every time you start the engine, but I wouldn't do it, simply because during long journeys the noise can become a bit too much, added to the rolling of the tyres sound. Not to mention the wife's whingeing about it.

If you press the S button the flap will still close in 2nd and 3rd gear where these are the gears you use when riding in a town. Many of us thought it would be much more fancy. Beside pressing the S button also manipulates the gas pedal's sensibility. With the additional switch you can cruise around with lots of sound in all gears.
BTW I believe at least 50 RS3s and Germany and Switzerland have added the switch so far, end everyone is really happy with it.

This is the reason why most of the our board members went to the solution of adding a switch instead of simply closing the tube with a bolt.

Adding the switch is a different thing all toghether, which I would consider, but having the flap constantly opened by using a bolt is a no for me.

I've found I'd switch off "S" on the motorway as it makes for a quieter cabin.

The TTRS lot do this mod to allow for better sound but no harsh suspension.

Not sure I'd want this sound 100% of the time, it'd be a pain on long motorway journeys.

Or you can just have the Sport mode parameters remapped so the flap is open all the time when the button is pressed.

If you already remapped the ecu, you can also get the flap open at all time the s-button is pressed. but for my car, did not want to do any remapping on the ecu (warranty 5y or 100tkm) it is a cool solution with the switch.
