Have you fitted the shims on the front? The pads are slightly smaller than OEM and 100% have to have the shims to take
up the clearance.
Do NOT fit shims on the rear.

On my 8p i have no shims fitted on the back of the pads & you may find the pads are to thick to fit them. :89:

Tbh if they needed shims Ferodo would have supplied them with the pads.

Btw i don't have any noise problem with the DSs without them at all.  :D

Is this 8P or 8V?
OEM 8P don`t have shims.
OEM 8V don`t have shims.
8V with Ferodo pads usually come without shims but you absolutely have to fit them. The OEM pad is longer than the
Ferodos by about 1mm .Without the shims you will get horrendous squeal. The pads will be rattling about in the calipers
Audi won`t sell them `cos they don`t use them. You`ll have to get them from Trevor.

My FDS1664 had shims supplied
They didn’t fit my caliper.

So had to wait until they wore down to fit them.

Sadly I have found my Pads now squeal with or without shims.

Trevor is talking about swapping them for the RS3 dedicated pads.

I don`t mean the thickness of pads .I`m talking the length is different by about 1mm.

Dunno about length Neil as mine are the FDS1664 so shims fit nicely as they curl around the top and bottom too.

Yes mate I already took them out to grind a chamfer on them, didn’t work for me.

I’ve got a suspicion the noise is coming from the lip on the disc edge
Rubbing against the out side of the pads.
Need to investigate further.......

After a conversation with Neil (raptor) about the squeal, today I decided to drill / clear the disc holes....

Outer holes where easy, once passed the middle it was a different story, the dust was compacted and needed the drill......

A test drive afterwards and all is quiet which I’m hoping is a good sign, because 20 mins earlier they were squealing......

Just as an observation not any kind of fix,........

I had brake squeal often with the original wavy discs and pads, I lived with it, as it was manageable with either cleaning them or stopping hard from speed, was never enough to get me back to the stealers for a fix that never existed.

At 30k I had the pads and discs changed due to wear, and was in 3 minds about what to do, in the end I went for OEM replacements, kept my warranty valid, cost was competitive and the results have been very good indeed.

10k on them and not one squeak, squeal or judder.
I’m really pleased with them, and reading the above it seems even good aftermarket kit can suffer the same .

And Sean - the drilling of the holes is something that was necessary on my 2010 Lotus Exige with the big brake upgrade, AP 4pot callipers with vented and cross drilled discs, the service tech explained that it was a standard procedure on any major service.
The holes can get clogged and it does go rock hard, and can cause uneven cooling = warping and cracking etc.

Audi service peeps never ever mentioned or recommended this procedure, has occurred to me a few times when having a good inspection while cleaning the wheels.... but seemed to make no difference.....am sure it will keep cooling even though.

The squeaky brake thing will be a long running and never ending issue.

Having just typed the above what’s the bet I go out today and get massive squeaking lol

I actually think clearing the holes has made the squeal worse ☹️

Pads out and I’m gonna try something

Note the edge of the pads catching on the disc lip
