Hi

Finally after 4 months looking for the perfect RS3 i eventually got my hands on one!I'v had the car for about 5 weeks now and just started experiencing vibration/shaking of the steering wheel at 70/80 mph.My first thought was to get wheels balanced so popped down to local tyre place and got all 4 wheels balanced.Took the car on motorway reached a steady 80mph and the shaking was still there.

Just want to ask other members if they have had this same problem and what was the solution?

Zen,

I have exactly the same issue. Bought the car from new and have had steering wheel vibration at approx 75-80mph. I've put the post on a few times to see if others were affected and assumed mine was an isolated case. After 4 visits to Audi Portmouth, 2 independent garages and finally a tyre change at 9000 followed by having all wheels balanced using the Hunter balancer mine is still there. My car is with Audi Worthing. I have an open case with Audi UK over this. Best thing you can do is log this with Audi customer services. Ask to speak to Viv. She knows all about this. Don't waste anymore money on balacing your wheels.

cheers danny for feedback, what number did you ring to speak to viv?Can this problem be cured?

Just been looking at the other topics on brakes,Someone called Homeuse has wrote the new calipers are:8p0 698 996 Disks:8p0 615 301 B.

On first glance on my front calipers its a different number which might say i may still be using the old brake kit.I have also read that the vibration can also be caused by slight wobble from caliper?

Definitely worth considering and suggesting to Audi when you call them. Good luck.

Mine has the new brake set up and i get vibration at 75-80mph.

Seems to be a common issue.

My dealer reckons it's a problem with my wheels, even tho there is no visible damage they say could be a slight twist/ deformity in one or more wheels, so then I say so why do most RS3's have the same issue then, there Reply was they've never had any other complaints could be that the wheels are weak for the car set up & the different road conditions, try a different set of wheels, I'm like HOW!!!!!

Mine is with Worthing Audi now. So, we swapped the fronts with the backs and the vibration goes, assuming it was an issue with one of the alloys I then asked them to swap the tyres over so that the 235s are back on the front. Went out for a test drive and the vibration is back. Swapped the fronts with backs again so that the 225s were on the front and the vibration goes. So there is an issue with the 235s on the front. I'm waiting for Audi UK for a solution to this.

The more that log this with Audi UK the better.

You will get straight through to her on 0800 699 888. Just ask for Viv and someone will put your straight through.

Hope it can be fixed but the local dealer can't make sense of it. It's like the extra weight or width of the tyres on the front are causing problems

I will ring Audi customer care tomorrow and report the problem.
I also have 235 at the fronts and 225 at the back so could be I may try swapping them too.I was looking to put 255 at the fronts when the 235 get worn!I think wider tyres gives the front end a better stance!

Viv is great at Audi.  I have this issue, at 70-80mph.  Worthing Audi say there is no visible damage but I have a buckled nsf wheel.  I am sending it to Lepsons to get it straightened, then will re-check.

Its a real shame the niggly issues with the car as in every other way its perfect

Intersting Danny.  So the front and back wheels are the same?  Seems Audi might have some problems with soft wheels....

Those conti tyres are the cause of lots of problems, the steering vibration could be another one. I could feel a vibration soon after having mine remapped as I had a bit of a brake lock up while pushing a bit too hard, but the shaking on mine would start as soon as it got to around 90 mph. and it stopped when I had the F1's fitted.
The F1's also cured an annoying rumbling noise that the dealer couldn't find the cause and the very bad tram-lining that made the front of the car feel like was driving on patches of ice. The dealer said the tram-lining is normal with cars with big wheels and tyres..........its not happening with the F1's though!!

Its the tyres, thats why even though the dealers are checking and testing everything it seems they cannot solve any of these problems.

Well I'm assuming the alloys are the same size? I didn't check. I just swapped them over. Its just the tyres that are different in size? I'll check tomorrow. The problem is with the tyre width or weight as the 225s on the front seem to eliminate the vibration.

I swapped from contis to goodyears to to see if it eliminated the problem. Then balanced using the Hunter. No joy.

Please try if you get the chance. Obviously this isn't a fix. Should we accept putting 225s on the front as a solution?  Viv will help you out. If we have one case manager dealing with this she can hopefully focus on sorting this. Keep us posted.

I also have this problem. The dealer tried a couple of things, but with no luck. The car is fitted with the new brake update.

Weird. So I guess putting 225s to the front is the solution? So the 235s on the back?

Do you all have this problem continiously? Or... Because sometimes I don't get the vibrations and the other day a couple of times driving a straight fine road with approx. 100 km/u. I think when the car is slowing down the vibration occurs.

Mine also does this.. Having 2 new F1 on front of car tomorrow. Amazingly had new contis only 2500 miles ago and they are already on an advisory. Awful tyres. Never again!! Hoping the new tyres will fix the vibration issue, but as I'm
Only changing the front 2 I don't hold out much hope!
