If it is the chains/ tensioners/sprockets and it certainly sounds like it is then a diagnosis will show ziltch. It`s a mechanical issue that the computer is unable to detect. You must have deep pockets if you want Audi to do it .Much better and cheaper to use a specialist.

It`s not the chain that stretches. It`s the variable cam sprockets that give up .I very much doubt Audi can suss that out. What area are you?

I'm just having mine done at the minute went when it was on the dyno luckily on start up and not while doing a run. make sure they are going to check the oil strainer that goes to your top tensioner as mine had split and wasn't getting the correct oil pressure to tension it correctly

If u don't mind me asking , where are you getting yours done and what price , I was surprised at the price on mine as I was expecting a whole lot more if I'm honest ?

When mine was done by Audi under warranty I saw the parts and prices invoice. The parts alone cost more than your total bill. Something weird there.

They probably charge Audi full whack under a warranty claim Neil, so no discount on the parts

To be honest when they quoted me I asked if that was for everything full kit including variable cam sprockets and including vat and they said that's everything so £2800 is pretty good for a main dealer , although I'd rather not have to spend it on a car so soon after buying it , but should be good for a fair few years after its all doneThey probably charge Audi full whack under a warranty claim Neil, so no discount on the parts

Well got the car back yesterday and it's sorted , ( hopefully) and they did the software update and so far it's worked , so no timing chain replaced ... really hope that it's sorted now , been a hard 2 weeks without the car
So just the software update sorted it then ?

Yes , so far so good mate , was a surprise when I went to pick it up n only had a £120 bill instead of the £2800 they quoted , but I listen for everything now as I'm still unsure how it could have sorted the noise it had with just an update
I remember when my mk1 had this oil pressure update on its first service, I think it carried over from the TTRS because of low oil pressure at start up and as a consequence it sounded a little noisy sometimes while warming up.

So did the update sort it out ?

I seem to remember it did.
The noise was only on start up from cold.
