Don't worry Jose Mr Daytona will be gutted when his dealer pull his factory "RS3 sills" to pieces and then the dealer call him to say sorry sir the the technician started ripping the car to pieces and has realised the new illuminated sills have A3 on them are you happy to proceed? If not we will have to order some factory ones "RS3 non illuminated ones unfortunately they are on back order so would you like to collect your car with no sills now? We will polish the sticky bits off

Jose your points re VAG parts and ordering process are entirely valid.

However, a parts manager may take an order, using an existing part number to create the order number with full knowledge that what he's actually after is something that doesn't either a.fully exist yet and b. Have an assigned part number.

This is the clarity that anyone who's after this option needs - which I think is what you're trying to get at?

I guess a bit of interest here as the bigger siblings come with them as standard

Indeed scotexile. People can register interest with their dealers parts dept in anticipation of the part becoming available if they want (and if people want to see this part I suggest they do).
But if you do this you'll need to be very clear with your dealer as plenty will just take the A3 part number and order it!

So, these illuminated sills..... someone mentioned they are powered by a battery on a closed circuit??  You have to charge them?
