I have an APR downpipe waiting to be fitted and also a second cat back OEM exhaust with resonators removed but think this will be a step to far for the wife and little man, will keep you posted though.

Im in the same boat as you but still waiting to have my decat pipes done...booked in at the end of the month.....I was thinking of the OEM exhaust with resonators removed but I was told I would run the risk of it sounding too cheap and too loud.... with the little man I wouldnt want to upset him lol....but yeah by all means let us know how it goes!

So the bypass pipes are on and all I can say is that its the best money I have spent on the car yet! However, although it sounds nice and the DSG gear changes are immense, I would like a resonated cat back to open up the sound a bit more......
I'm aware that a few of you do have some impressive systems on the car so I was hoping you could help me with your experience.
Is it worth getting a resonated cat back to make the sound louder, but not too loud as I don't want a drony/chavvy sound.
Thanks!!!!

I have a Milltek non-resonated cat back (the louder one) and cat by-pass pipes and believe me its really not that loud - nowhere near as loud as the BMW performance exhaust on the E82 135i i had. If you coming to meet next Sunday you can hear mine?
Am even thinking of perhaps researching akropovic for soemthing a bit more raw

Hi Colin, this is what I am confused about, which one to go for, the resonated or the non resonated...... thing is I have a little baba (dont want to scare him)...and I really don't want the drone on the motorway or a really loud idle sound. I have youtube'd the sound of a resonated cat back system and it sounds really nice and just accentuates that great RS sound. It was a video of a grey one with silver roof linings.
Its a shame I cant come to hear yours but I wont be available to come to the meet
Does the cat back system make a good sound choice to a cat bypassed RS3? would you think its worth doing the mod?

Honestly i dont think that the non-resonated is that loud and yes it can be a little boomy at particualr revs so I just back off or accelerate accordingly and it goes away. I cant comment on cat bypass only as i did both at the same time - there is a sound bite somewhere on here of a car with cat bypass only ??
If you cant make the Haynes meet are you going to Gti Festival or Audis in the Park ? Or maybe , if you anything like me, you cant wait that long ?

I have a second OEM exhaust without resonators but I've never fitted it. If you wanted to fit it to try it out before making changes to your own sure we could come to some arrangement. So the bypass pipes are on and all I can say is that its the best money I have spent on the car yet! That's a shame.. I got the scorpion bypass and really isn't that loud.. I always drive slow when approaching home.. and of course turn off the s button if on... Never had a problem. Have a very light sleeping baby so sometimes when I come in late I try hard to be careful and it's no lounder than many road cars... I find the diesel taxi across my road far lounder starting up in the morning!I've now removed my cat bypass pipes.

Hi Colin,
I have the secondary bypass pipes on the car now and its definitely was worth getting done. I would however like a louder exhaust sound, now I have the option of getting a custom built cat back with an electronic valve for £300 pounds when these systems are usually around £600/700. difficult for me to get time off work Monday-Friday....I wont be coming to a meet unless its within an en-catchment distance of Manchester......hopefully that will be soon....

How can that sad tw*t (a technical term, obviously) not like the noise of a 2.5-litre 5-pot at low rpm!
