I think Sat/Nav was probably std on the MK1s as Audi had a bin full of prehistoric units that no one would want so why not stick it on a Car and let people think there were getting a £1500 option as std. On The New S3 it's an Option along with the likes of Merc's A45 and VW's Golf R, And even if you do specify it on the Gen 2 Car It's still only puts the New Model £500 more than the Mark 1 and for that you get more than the Gen 1 Cars had as STD (which surely makes it better value than what Audi offered 4 Years ago and they sold all 750 Cars without much problem)

As for the Extras something's like the Supersport Seats can be viewed/tested in the existing S3 and as most People seemed to ignore the reviews of the Gen 1 Cars otherwise we would all be driving round in BMW' M135i's so not worth waiting for there useless knowledge..

Understand what your saying about trying something before you would place an order but judging by a lot of peoples excitement from just seeing the configurator going on-line there prepared to be like a kid in the sweet shop when they leave that Dealership in not only a brand new Car but also one of the 1st of what I'm sure will turn out to be one hell of a Beast. So I suppose you could say what price do you put on that feeling if you've got to forgo the family Holiday to pay the Extra probably a bit stupid but if it just means there's a bit less in the pot at the end of the year then maybe the excitement of owning a New RS3 is worth it.

Indeed - clearly for all those ordering right now then that excitement is worth the price and I sincerely hope you are all happy with your choices. I wasn't intending to be at all critical, merely saying that it isn't for me just yet  :)

Is the reversible mat instead of a non-reversible mat, or is there no standard mat at all?

Thank you Scotty, I am well happy with my spec now and so lucky to be getting it.

Regarding the Mat, it just protects the nice side, if I trip out and carry anything not suitable for an RS3 anyway :)

Some nice specs coming out today and I am happy with the reviews. It will be an awesome road car, like the MKI, but there is better out there on the track. It is typically Audi safe, but that is why I want one and not a 400BHP rear wheel drive in English weather.

Been waiting for the online configuration to be released for some time now and finally built my ideal spec.. £51k

I'm sorry to say but there is not a chance this is a 50k motor. I'd sooner buy a decent spec 14 plate RS5 or part with 60k for a used RS6 so think I'll be waiting for a 12 month old approved used car to escape the VAT and initial depreciation if I do end up going for it. What's the chances of a Merlin Purple with the other options I want appearing? Very slim I guess!

I'd love to see this car in the flesh though, I wonder if any dealers will have a demo car in this summer???

Well mine has now been finalised once and for all thank god. I'd originally gone with Mythos Black Metallic, which I know is a nice colour but having seen an S3 Sportbacks in Estoril Blue with black styling pack that I thought looked stunning I asked my dealer yesterday if he could find out if they could do it, to which he finally came back earlier and said yes he's checked and they can do it no problem. Glad my orders now finally in and I can join the rest in the waiting game. I also got quoted week 38, but told to expect a delay, which I knew anyway.

Final Spec

Estoril Blue

Dynamic package

Body coloured door mirrors

High-gloss black styling package

Privacy glass

Super sports seats (Black with contrasting stitching in Rock grey) with RS 3 embossing

Titanium matt finish alloys

Stu, did they charge you the standard £2K for Estoril Blue as an exclusive colour or was it more than that? I'm considering doing the same for another colour.

Catalunya red has really grown on me, it looks great, especially with the high gloss black pack. Lovely spec. I feel your pain, Im build week 41 but the dealer did say it may be sooner but go with that.

At last, someone going for red!  Me too, but I'm sticking with standard optics, glass and wheels.  I agree it looks better with black optics etc but I'm going for more of the Q-car subtle, low-key look.  Just need to decide on seats now...

In my garage:  RS3 8V Sepang blue, standard wheels and trim, SS seats in black/grey with grey headlining, comfort and sound, dynamic pack, dipping door mirror, no farting pack,  :D

For all those that have placed orders, when have your dealers suggested they will have demonstrators for you to actually test drive? Or is there a showcase event like they have done for most RS launches?

I couldn't make my mind up with colour, grey was a bit marmite love or hate it and I didn't want a black one, I did consider the pearl grey as you don't see many of them and then when I went in I wanted to try the mag ride on an s3 and that was in sepang blue which looked very good much better then in the brochure or configurator! In the end went with the red as I kept going back to that! I did to start with want the aluminium pack but after a while of looking at it decided I didn't like the bit around the exhausts! So decided on black! Only because I wanted the Quattro lettering in the front grill! I do like the idea of the Q car look having said that!! I would have liked the grey seats but I don't like the super sports seats with the holes in the middle of the diamonds so that leaves me with the standard ones! Has anyone got any thoughts on the mag ride as I know on the s3 it been slated with some even going as far as to say it ruins the handling? With that in mind I thought it best to leave the dynamic pack out as much as I wanted the extra sports exhaust which is confusing as I'm sure the sports exhaust of some sort was standard!?

P_G - I was told I would get my car way before the dealer even gets a look in at a demo car, only chance you may have would be to get hold of a press car if your dealer can mange it, my mate who ordered an s3 when it came out was lent one for a weekend. From my understanding if you miss a build slot in the run of each dealers 15 allocated you could be waiting at least 18 months from now!

I've tried an S3 with mag ride and tbh I couldn't tell much difference between the three modes.  All were perfectly fine - well controlled and not too hard.  I've not tried an S3 on standard suspension though so can't compare.  The RS3 will have lower and stiffer springs than an S3 , so having a softer setting in the mag may prove more useful than it would in the S3.  Several of the early press reports with standard suspension say it's miles better than the Mk1 but is still too hard.  I'm going for mag, in the hope that it's softest setting gives me enough compliance for the bumpy roads round here.

Yes mate I got charged the standard £2k for the Estori Blue which when I asked thought it'd be more but my dealer said no its £2k. I even said to him are you sure lol to which he assured me it was. He then sent me my final order on PDF which says it it in black & white so it must be right.

I've got to say I'm so glad I did because it was on my mind that I wanted the Estoril but expected that it wasn't possible but sure enough it was.

I've been reading the new reviews for the RS3 and seems to be pretty much the same as the rs1 albeit 4 years later... Think I will see how this one pans out, at least with the mk1 there is the rearity novelty that plays into it. And quite liking it's simplicity and slightly old school looks which will no doubt grow as with other rs models. Best part about the new RS3 for me is the I twrior and sports exhaust but not enough to pay 50k extra from what appears to be a similar car... Will test drive one when it comes out to see if the difference is justified.

To be absolutely honest, if your order is behind the dealer's cars you're speaking to the wrong people
Maintaining status quo is not an option

Out of interest how many people are trading in their old cars for the new one or are most on the PCP
