And they've arrived - deceiving how big these actually are when there not on the car. I can imagine the fronts would be something else

I need this Jay can you pls explain or PM what/how you got hold of them eg what did you ask for and from who etc.

Cheers, TX.

PS I note the drilled "holes" both go in the same direction so no left and right side disc?

C'mon John; are you saying or even thinking that your front discs are not "no left and right side"; if yes you haven't been taking note of this and the umpteen other threads discussing the same now painful subject of RS3 brakes 'cos Audi RS3 front brake discs are NOT handed; and to match with 'other' suppliers brake discs, if that's what you want to do, then that's for you to do, or not.

It's all been described/discussed/demonstrated/uploaded photos, etc., so go read some more...

However, does it matter, only you can decide, as others have for themselves...

I didn't read his post the way you did, he was asking about those 'rear' discs in the image alone, nothing else. I believe he is fully aware of the front discs.

Can't vouch for others but my MTec rear discs lasted about 5 winter months before the hubs started rusting. Had to have them repainted at my last detail session and applied a couple of coats of GTechniq C1 for good measure

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Did you have the silver coating applied by MTEC too? I'm going to put some protection on them anyway even though I've got the coating applied

Trouble is I'm only a simple soul so all this technical stuff is lost on me ;) just read post #10 again and it looks like you can get either, is that right eg both to match the fronts or indeed one left and one right if you really want it?

Just out of interest as I know you have a lot of technical knowledge, do you think it matters if they are handed or not?

TX.

On an 8P

If you want to match the front brake drill pattern & direction , at purchase request picture b. ( post 10)

If your not bothered get picture a. ( as supplied standard)

I can't confirm the 8V drill pattern, but do know the Mtec's fit.

I've been quoted £65 to fit these discs next Tuesday however I'm always up for learning and doing things myself when I can to improve my knowledge on the car, especially what could "potentially" be a simple job. From reading various threads the spline bolts are a pig due to limited clearance when it's grounded so if back it up onto some ramps to loosen the splines (not completely) for the calliper bracket first before anything. Then jack it up, remove wheel/ramp etc is that going to cause any issues? I thought also with the car planted as well if they were a pig to remove the cars not going to be suspended so I can give it some if needed. Also I'd want to clean and grease the hubs too and not sure the garage would do this. So £65 or DIY?

Personally I would say DIY. I have never known a garage that takes as much time to do a job the way I would want it done. £65 sounds like an hourly rate to me so that would just be to get the old discs off and new ones in with a quick sand of the hub to make sure it's sitting flat. Last time I did my rear disks I spent more than an hour with a wire drill bit and flap wheel getting all the corrosion off the hubs and cleaning & degreasing the back plates.

For £65 I'd let them do it, it's a fair price.

Some 'wobble' extensions will make it 'easier' to get at the Spline bolts, you'll need a fair amount of clearance from the ground though to use a breaker bar to get those bolts moving, cause they are tight.

After seeing your post earlier on in the thread I've seen what could be the worse case scenario. My only concern is that I've applied POR15 on the hubs so I did make sure it was running but for any reason it's leaked and gone down through the vents in the disc then I may have the same issue as you - but as I say I'm 99% sure this isn't the case. How abrasive did you go for the drill bits to clear the rust? What grease did you use?
