Only noticed this recently but it looks like I'm only getting drive through front wheels. No warning lights on re the 4 wheel drive system but if I put my foot down get quite a lot of wheel Spin and tracking control kicking in a lot.

Maybe it's just me and it's to do with the grit on roads but has anyone else experienced this.

Thanks

Well known fault

Get it in to Audi ASAP if under warranty.

The last generation of A3 were front wheel drive until you lost grip on the front axle (haldex). Not sure if this generation is set up any different. The larger audis use a different awd system (torsen) that is permanent 4wd like my rs4 that under normal conditions sends 60% of torque to the rear wheels.

Is this what you mean? So only once those front wheels start to spin will the haldex divert power to the rear axle.

I had it last year.... Car all of sudden became a handful when accelerating, traction control / esp flashing its **** off.

I think the pump is around £250 on its own.

We had this a couple of weeks ago on ours (your old car) as said Haldex clutch pump managed to get some money off as a good will gesture not sure total cost but not expensive

Yes this is exactly what I'm getting. I have had the car 6 months and only noticed it very recently. So it's not the driving set up I understand it may not be permenant 4 wheel drive but as above its actually become a handful under hard acceleration.

It's under warranty thankfully.

It looks like the mk2 has a little heat shield to protect it from the exhaust temps.
Maybe that's why the mk1 fails??

It'll most certainly be the Haldex pump. I have this issue intermittently at the moment but unless it fails completely and doing it all the time, you may struggle when taking it to Audi.
I checked my car using VCDS and it straight away flagged up an intermittent open circuit fault with the Haldex pump. Took into Audi, "no problem all working correctly sir"!
Challenged them on it and apparently VCDS has been superseded and there new diagnostic system is not picking anything up! Must be a good system then, well at least for not having to do warranty work!! Bloody hopeless!
The cars ok at the mo so will keep driving until it gets more consistent and am going to log a complaint with Audi UK and see what happens

I've had the same issue, logged on VCDS on 2 separate occasions and both times Audi have seen no fault found. I'm convinced they just reset it to avoid replacement. I've noticed the traction control kicking it a few more times than normal recently so will scan again and decide again. Although I have a £250 excess to pay so may wait till something else fails so can kill 2 birds.

Buy one and fit it yourself then ?

Especially if you have a £250 excess.

The Haldex pump is around that price anyway.

The car is still under warranty and is in Audi now,

I am having the same issue as above the "There is no problem with it"

I can tell from owning the car for 9 months and having one previously it's not right,

Mechanic took it out today and said it drives as expected and Audi system not showing any issues but the car is a right handful now

I know it's front wheel drive until it looses traction but even when it looses traction the rear isn't kicking in.

What can I do if Audi say it's right?

I had to prove it wasn't right ,

Mine started doing it after about 20 miles of driving it would then wheel spin , I demonstrated this and eventually the tech sort of agreed I turned the car off and back on again and I would get 4 wheel drive again I then showed him the difference and he then totally agreed it wasn't as it should be.

I never got the car back since this so I don't know what it drove like but they replaced the haldex pump as I told them too !!!!

You know your car better and how it's behaving , my advice would be to ask Audi UK what they think.

And possibly take it to another dealer to get another test , but best to try demonstrate it your self as you know when it's doing it.

Edit;
I literally waited until it was pissing it Down and turned the traction of and literally did a long line of number 11's down the road to show the tech ! He took some convincing and at one point he said I'm driving it aggressively and it will spin . I told him to stop been a smart arse and that I was doing it to show him. It did get heated but eventually he agreed totally.

For some reason you need to really push Audi because unless if flags and error there quite dumb

When mine done this it was very noticeable, checked with vcds and the code was shown. I took a screenshot of the code and description and emailed it to my dealer.
Pump was replaced no questions asked, normal traction resumed.

It's a massive difference and I can't believe a mechanic can drive it and think its right, It should divert traction in miliseconds not wheel spin down the road for 10 seconds.

What is VCDS and who usually has them and can show me the code.

Thanks

Piece of software and cable that connects to your car with ability to ready fault codes / error messages
Also has the ability to turn stuff on like Alarm chirp etc etc.

Where abouts are you ?
