Question for those of you that have fitted cat bypass pipes yourselves. Do you definitely need to do this with the car on a post lift or over a pit for the height clearance to be able to remove the old and fit the new pipes?

I hate having to pay garages to do easy jobs but the problem is getting enough access under the car using jacks or wheel ramps alone.

I done mine with the drivers side jacked up and was fairly easy!
About 45 mins all in.

Scorpion or Milltek?

I know technically they are just metal pipes but does anyone know off the top of their heads differences between the two? Build quality, thickness of the metal tubing, weight etc?

Are these bypass pipes MoT legal, or does it depend on luck of the draw with the tester on the day?

The vehicle will pass its emission test with the secondary cats removed (as it sill has the main primary cat) but the tester should be carrying out a "presence" check as part of his examination, so if he (or she) knows that the vehicle in question should have the secondary cats fitted as standard then its a fail once removed.

 

Most testers I know will pass if it passes the emission test.

Scorpion are just as good if not better than Miltek but don't cost anywhere near as much.
I have Scorpion and I inspected them thoroughly before fitting.
They are definitely quality items. The rest of the system is of the same quality.

It's always helpful having a friendly knowledgable MOT tester who's happy to do the MOT for you

Mark would suggest one if you ask him, if your in the South.

Nope, there are no sensors near them to trigger such an ECU response.

Thanks again. I'm sold on the Scorpion pipes. If my local MOT centre fails it I will just re-fit the Cat pipes and get it through on the re-test.

Yes, started with fitting the bypass pipes, then went on to get the cat back non res system.

I'm debating whether to go for res or non res - how do you find the non res on motorways, any drone (excluding that which may come from any passengers, of course  ) ?

There can be some drone at certain times, it's funny if you're pushing on its like the sound is thrown further away and sounds sweet.

At any speed, if you're accellerating gradually, it seems like 3k rpm is the spot where you get the worst drone.

Equate that to motorway driving and you have to be in excess of 70 to get there.

I won't lie, at times it can be a touch uncomfortable, but mine is a fun car, and as such when I drive it I'm having fun and listening to Lightning growl, can't help but put a smile on your face.

I don't know where you are but if you're close enough to come listen, I'll gladly take you for a spin.

As Neil has said above, there can be a "drone" at certain RPM / road speed combinations, Mine is fitted with a full Milltek system and being critical it can drone a little at 100 Mph, but as he also states the "fun" & "growl" far out weighs any negatives
