We have an 8V S3 as our daily driver and without doubt it's one of the best cars I've driven in a long time. Everything is where you want it to be, it looks good (imho) and it handles great. 😉
The interior is far better than the 8P and the technology as you would expect far far better. It's also very well put together.
So with the 5 pot in I think it will a gem, yes you'll need to spend a bit more wedge to get it to how you want it, but isn't that the way of the world these days for individuality?
Plus hopefully all those annoying traits from the 8P will have also gone...😣
My spec: (dear Santa 🎄🎅)
Exclusive Ara Blue (ala R8 LMX)paint
Carbon brakes
DRC package
Titanium coloured alloys
Panoramic Roof
Exclusive interior with sepang blue stitching
Technology pack
For starters.....👍
Just my two pen'th....
Happy Christmas one and all 🎄🎅

I also have to agree on the price... I think the car looks great and love the proper twin oval RS3 exhausts... I think it will be a better car, not willing to spend over 40k on it though....
I agree - it's a bit of a shame it looks so reserved too with that price tag, those alloys on the official release pictures make it look almost entry level TDI modelesque.
I'm sure it will be a much better drivers car - as with all improvements in technology and chassis etc etc. but £50k is certainly more expensive than its competitors and I'm now less convinced, rather than more, with all these factors to upgrade my current RS3. Perhaps, inadvertently, this will make the Mk1 RS3 market even more healthy! I'll still have a look and a test drive though of course!

Which is great if you don't need 5 doors, rear passenger practicality and a hatchback rather than a boot. Then you'd probably compare it to a TTRS.

Absolutely agree with you Gruff500, Since changing from the RS3 to an M135i due to high mileage motorway driving I was already thinking what am I going to replace with it. But after visiting the honourable Mr Freeze and viewing lightning (his RS3) in the garage, although the new RS3 is going to be exciting but I decided there and then I am definitely going to get back into a MK1 RS3 in the near future. There is something special about that car from when I first purchased it to when I parted with it, it was a dream drive and it has a v8 type performance car presence to it. To achieve that in a hatch back is sensational.I agree - it's a bit of a shame it looks so reserved too with that price tag, those alloys on the official release pictures make it look almost entry level TDI modelesque.

Well I like it, I'm sure it will look plenty aggressive enough when they start appearing in the flesh. The price, hmmm, it's a tough one to swallow but I will probably convince myself based on inflation
My issue and I may be worried about something that will never happen here as I haven't researched it at all but "Golf R400... "
Does it or will it exist? I don't want one, but I would be seriously pis$$ed off if I got smoked at the lights by one!
Near 400BHP in a 2.0? Would VA G (wont let me write the group name) allow this???

Remember the R400 will be running on the limits for a 2.0, Simple remap in an RS3 equals more bhp and considerably more torque as there is no replacement for displacement!!

I'm not interested in remapping, if I am going to be spending 50K on an Audi RS I'm not willing to be made to feel inadequate by a Golf.
It sounds snobby I guess but I was under the impression that the RS3 was the ultimate V A G hatch, it seems that may not be the case if the R400 has anything to do with it.

R400 was a concept, it is not confirmed, everything on the net is just rumours, even if it does get the green light it will be 2-3 years away

Hopefully by the time the saloon comes along they'll have a few good maps sorted, or more cynically, an RS3-Plus will show up with 380+.

Looking forward to having a proper mooch round it at Geneva. With the power of RS3OC with Audi is there any chance we will see an invitation day at Oulton to have a go in them like they did for the B8 RS4's?

Not exactly proof of anything, but I noticed Lake District Audi have a generic 'RS' offer stating OTR £46,300 (which doesn't correlate with any current RS model), that links to an RS6 for £78k RS6 offer, with a picture of an RS5... could be some early 'leaking' of the RS3 page set up?

I'm still waiting on the saloon announcement, but in the mean-time playing around with ideas. I've said for years my next car will be blue (despite the last 2 since being the same Daytona grey) so top of the list WAS Racing Mica Blue. I know Simon has it on his 8P RS3 and it looks amazing. Then I saw an R8 in Samoa orange and some conflict crept in to my mind. I want to see Samoa on some more shapes before I decide, I know there's a few TTs and an A1 kicking about somewhere, and looking through google image search it looks like it ranges from a bright golden-bronze to a rather dull rust depending on light/camera/angle etc. Need to see it in the metal more.
Other options are dependant on packs and pricing, but want bucket seats, magneto ride, panoramic sunroof, black optics, performance exhaust, parking plus w/camera etc, full bells and whistles audio/video whatever... not sure what else. So far looking like maybe ~£10k on top of list, but that's based on S3 spec and option prices (which should drop for the RS).
Still the most important option I want it deleting the rear window/roof though.
