Afternoon gents,

I've found conflicting info online and in the owners manual for where exactly the fuse for the oil level sensor is located. Some say it is fuse no.4 inside the drivers side dash fuse box and others that it is in the under bonnet fuse box.

Does anyone know definitively which is correct?

This is on the 8P by the way  ;)

Thanks in advance.

Mike

It may sound obvious but have you gone about looking for it the long way by checking/testing all the fuses ?

Hi Dell,

I had a load of spare fuses to hand so swapped out the ones that I suspect were connected to the oil level sensor. It made no difference to the warning light, so I will look toward checking the wiring from the sensor before swapping out to a new sensor if all else fails.

Thanks.

Hi Mike.

Do you have access to diagnostic software like VCDs ? If so you should be able to check it.

Hi Dell,

I don’t have VCDS but I do have a scan tool that picked up fault codes P0196- engine oil temperature sensor circuit (range/performance) & 00562- Oil level thermal sensor (short circuit to ground).

I just need to figure out if it’s a wiring issue before throwing money at a new sensor.

Do you know if the sensor fault would interfere with the oil cooler’s operation (with the engine not being able to determine the oil temp) or is the cooler always open for the oil to circulate through it?

Thanks.

Hi Mike.

The short to ground can be a red herring due to an open circuit in the oil level sensor also they may use the same sensor for the oil temperature.

The oil cooler is of the oil to water type with its sandwich plate on the oil filter housing.

If you live anywhere near the South London/Kent boarder I have VCDs so we could scan for a better insight to your problem.

Hi Dell,

I appreciate the offer, thank you. I am based in South London, but have managed to get the car booked in at a local indie in a couple of days time to investigate the issue and hopefully get it sorted.

Cheers.
