For those of you that want to read a good article of flex fuel. I like the fact they are sharing information:

RaceCal 'Tech Insight' - E85/Flex Fuel! What? Why? How? – RaceCal Ltd.

It is an interesting write-up, not something I have interest in until I could get E85 straight from the forecourt pumps but interesting none the less.

I think it is a clever feature of the DS1 that it can do flex-fuel so well just with the standard ECU. Couple of reasons I would not use the DS1 myself but no denying it is a good piece of kit if you have the need of its abilities.

Syvecs/Motec are obviously in a different league, both ability and price.

DS1 pretty much offers everything syvecs offers on the RS3 platform for a fraction of the cost, all depends on the skills of the tuner you're using. Having used both for a daily driven car that occasionally races I would 100% pick DS1 over the syvecs, for an out and out race car then syvecs makes sense to some degree.

I think this is the issue with the DS1, there is not a lot of established knowledge and a lot of it seems educated guesswork, nothing wrong with that but some are better at it than others. There seems to be some bun fights between tuners on that platform that did not fill me with confidence. Conversations I had with Mitch and John didn't help either. There just seems to be more established experience with Syvecs and Motec but you pay for it.

I think it more depends on the level of modification and number of modifications you are trying to get to work together rather than if it is street or track driven.

Made the decision I'm not going past stage 1 on this thing as that is causing me enough trouble as it is.

That's a shame, he did a car for a mate of mine and I like the way he went about things.

That's odd because I have been emailing Rob at RaceCal over the last few weeks and he's the one who booked me in?

He is the one who confirmed that Syvecs can control the electronic TurboSmart wastegate.

I am sure DS1 is good but as Flybynite said there was more tuners and info out there when I was deciding what to get.

After my injector failure my biggest concern was the oem ecu didn't detect it. The Syvecs ecu has an advanced adaptive knock control which really impressed me. I read it can detect and deal with individual cylinder events including injector failure or cylinder overheating. In the event of an issue it can remove ignition timing or fuel. In extreme cases when knock intervention has not rectified the issue it can totally switch off the cylinder.

For me that level of safety feature is great for a highly modified car.

Well my setup is on a full frame xona turbo, so we will see how it fairs when mapped. I have switched away from syvecs on my RS3 to ds1 after having them on my previous 3 subarus. John and mitch have been grate in helping me so far and I cannot ask more of their product or support.

I’ve read good things about the DS1 and nearly went that route a while ago. It just boiled down to Regal hadn’t fitted either but had customers for their Wavetracks and Verkline kit who use Syvecs. I’m sure both are a massive improvement for an RS3. It’s a very contested topic going aftermarket because lots of tuners get good results on the stock ecu. I’m just in the mindset of belt & braces when it comes to anything that can make stressful big up builds more reliable.

So far I’ve had advice to say the lpfp, electronic wastegate, blow off valve, ecu, throttle body, intake manifold, going from 73mm to 80mm exhaust and 20 inch wheels are all not needed. Oh and going past stage 2 lol. There is always a ton of good advice on here but if everyone did upgrades the same way we would have a bunch of identical cars and we wouldn’t find out what changes can make things better.

Looking forward to seeing how your build goes Rooferman.

Information on alcohol based fuels and their potency on this and many other platforms. More relevant to the US as they can get the stuff like we can petrol.

It’s pretty clever stuff Roy. You can have 20 litres of 99 pump fuel in your car and add 10 litres of Race fuel and the flex fuel sensor allows your ecu to run perfectly. Basically any combination of alcohol levels and the ecu makes the adjustments. On oem ecu even if you had an e85 map you have to drain all the pump fuel out and the same when swapping back.

Why do you feel the need to have to get a dig in?
