I am sure this was discussed before but I cannot find a thread for it.

What do you guys think of turbo blankets because I see Funk now have one for the 8V Borg Warner based turbo?

Worth watching if anyone is considering a turbo blanket.

Interesting wee watch that. I’ve never considered one, but may now look at trying one out.

I’ve now gone 1 step further and I’m going to use their titanium exhaust wrap to coat me down pipe. It’s already ceramic coated but I read some test results showing it can reduce exhaust temps by a further 200 c when applied over ceramic coatings.

Not at all because it either goes out the exhaust or heats up the engine bay and heat soaks into the compressor side and increases the IATs. All race teams do this and if it was bad for the turbo, companies like Garrett, TTE and Owen Developments would be stating it would void the warranty. There are turbo companies now offering ceramic coatings on the manifolds and housings which makes me think it can’t be too bad.

Man that picture takes me back, I had a 4 branch on my 1989 XR3i back in the day. I wrapped it with that very stuff.

Just goes to show how long this heat management stuff has been around, yet still hasn’t hit mainstream. It’s still kinda niche.

Really nice products for sure. I did see the same type of kit from another manufacturer and was really expensive. I may have gone that route but I’d already had the ceramic coating done so opted for the wrap over the top. I had the turbo blanket on the TTE777 and I could put my hand on the outside whilst running. Not tested that after a couple of 1/4 mile runs.
