Hi,

So looking at intercoolers for the RS3 8V.2 17 Plate and it seems for all of them apart from the EVO1 you have to modify the stock crash bar, My question is can I use the Airtec intercooler with the USDM crash bar rather then modifying the UK one as I don't like the sound of that idea...

Unless there is any intercoolers for sale that use the stock crash bar and allow enough airflow/performance for the TTE600 EVO?

Thanks in advance,

Oliver.

I have the forge upgrade for my PFL and it comes with a whole new crash bar that is really quite substantial so I wouldn't worry about it tbh. I think you'll struggle to find an IC without changing the crash bar. I'd get one with a new crash bar like forge or wagnar tbh rather than cutting yours though.

If you really want to stick with standard crash bar maybe the wagnar smaller crash bar might work with a standard crash bar?

Is there a reason you wouldn’t want to use the Forge one with their crash bar? I read it was better on test than the Revo or Wagner.

Thanks for the advice,

I have since bought the REVO cooler and it fits really nice.

I will be interested to see what power it makes after your tune. Are you getting a Revo tune?

I will be going MRC for the map switching option. REVO do not offer stage 2/3 on FL.

I’ve used Revo before and found the maps good but they use a set map and only do one dyno run with minor adjustments to have a safe map. MRC are very experienced at custom mapping from scratch for any hardware combination. I am using Regal Autosport who have custom mapped a few cars for me including the stage 2 for my RS3. If you are chasing figures MRC is a good choice because they have a dynojet type rolling road which gives better figures than some others like a mustang dyno. I intend to do a rolling road run at MRC when I can the chance just to see what mine will do in comparison to other builds.

Revo do a lot more than one dyno run, the dyno gets used quite a lot. They also have both a DAZA and DNWA car's owned and run almost daily to prove out the software.  Their maps are suited to their own hardware, that's just good business sense but they also try other makes of hardware to check that their remap works, they know not everyone will buy the whole Revo package.

I have used Revo before and had no issues with them. I guess if you are getting a se hardware list recommended for their tunes you can't go wrong. They were good for the diesel map I had on my VW Caddys and Scirocco Tdi.

Thought  I would update this thread;

Had the car mapped at MRC and made 555BHP / 730NM Stage 2 with the REVO intercooler.

Very happy with the cooler and has a good price tag for the performance, build quality and the fact you get upgrade boost pipes included.

Supporting mods;

Scorpion race cat down pipe.

REVO Intercooler.

CTS turbo outlet pipe.

Forge high flow intake manifold elbow with DIY port matching to the stock manifold.

DIY intake using Forge hard pipe, silicone elbow and largest ProRam cone filter.

NGK colder plugs.

Mapped on NF Octane Booster.

What did you get before the octane booster?
