Hi All,

I have just been cleaning my alloy wheels and have found a few stone chips that need touching up.

Does anyone know what is the colour code for the standard (grey) alloys so I can buy a touch up stick?

I guess if I skip using the clear lacquer top coat it will achieve more of a matte look close to the original finish - but I'd welcome any advice if anyone has experience.

Thanks,

Caveman

Thanks Catnip,

I'll see if I can get one tomorrow from the Audi parts department.

Do you know if they would stock the matt clear coat, or is that more of a specialist paintshop item?

Cheers,

Cavey

Last time I checked they didn't stock alloy wheel touch up paint, VW paint shop should be able to make you some though :)

Hi Guys,

You were right. It was a 'NO' from the Audi parts department, but I managed to get a touch up pot mixed up at my local paintshop supply factors for only £4.99 + VAT.

They only sold the laquer in 1 litre tins, so I've skipped getting that for now.

I've tried touching in a couple of chips and they look a lot better - its not perfect, but at least the wheel is protected from corrosion.

I'll see how it looks overall after my next car wash session.

Cheers :)

Hi Caveman. New member here. Actually an A6 Black Edition Owner. I have the exact same issue in that I have started noticing Chips on my 20 inch Rotors; with TITANOPTIK/GRANIT paint. How can I get a pot of the touch up paint? Can you provide details of your paint supplier? I am in Scotland; just south of Glasgow. Cheers in anticipation

Hi Gmonster,

Catnip's paint code was spot on. I used a company called "Vehicle Refinishing Supplies" in Derby. Its mainly for trade bodyshop customers but they do mix up spray cans and touch up pots (with a brush in the lid) for anyone.

I guess if you search for paintshop suppliers in your local area and quote the L8AU paint code they should be able to mix it up. (it took less that 10 mins to do)

I skipped the lacquer to avoid a glossy finish, but the base coat has just the right satin look to match the original paint.

Cheers,

Caveman

Caveman. Thanks for quick/immediate response. Will search for a local paint supplier and take it from there. Smashing.
