Hi Guys,

New on here :)

Just bought an 8p on 1st of june, noticed a slight rattle at 2k rpm, took it to an independent specialist and has confirmed the chain and also flywheel need replacing. The inlet cam angle is out on vagcom so looks like it may have already jumped, as expected big bucks to fix.

I have an extended warranty with the car.. albeit only had the car for 6 weeks as well.

Extended warranty company are telling me that the noisy chain is normal on these and will be fine?? Sounds like BS to me but would like to hear your opinions on this have any ones chains jumped/caused any damage?

Cheers

Alan

It 100% won`t be fine. VCDS can check chain stretch on both chains. Audi replaced mine under warranty. Car was transformed afterwards. If left it and the chain jumps a couple of teeth it can end up destroying the engine . Don`t let them fob you off with the "revision to oil pressure at low revs " . Chances are your car will already have that done. In any case it doesn`t work.

Do any of you know what parameters can be checked for stretch?

It`s under engine measuring values. Mines 8V so probably be a different number to yours. You`ll have to scroll through them to find it.

Not under Audi mate, I have a scotsure warranty and they said its wear and tear and wont change till it snaps.... lol but finance company say If u know its faulty and drive on damage is caused your liable for it .. they paid for the lot after I complained as it's a really costly job

Finally got the car back, new flywheel and chain kit was installed. Engine is quieter than ever. Turns out there is a small gauze between the head and block for the top chain guide tensioner this had broken in half and was stuck in the tensioner blocking oil flow.

Common problem that gauze.

You should see what a 3mm swirl flap screw does to a piston/cylinder head 😳
